Abubakar Mwenda is a multi-talented professional with a diverse media, entertainment, and performing background. He is an accomplished screenwriter, playwright, voice-over artist, Screenwriter, content creator, director, actor, producer, curator & cultural heritage enthusiast, and a multidisciplinary & Interdisciplinary contemporary experimental artist.
With a passion for storytelling, his theatrical prowess shines through, having performed in more than 100 stage productions spanning various forms and genres. He has penned two full-length plays, "Bitter Love" and "Footprints on Me." His play "Footprints on Me" gained international recognition, earning an Official Selection at the Film Residency - Cinema Lab V2.0 2022 in Colombia.
Abubakar has written, produced, & directed over 10 local short films including; Ghetto Hustler, Rat a Baby Race, Midnight Sleepers, Magaidi Mahasidi, and Vitunguu Maji. The films have been showcased at local and International film festivals, and are currently available on regional and international VOD and live film streaming platforms. These include Safaricom Baze, Cinetie, and BeBop TV & Film channel.
As a Screenwriter, Abubakar has been privileged to showcase his creative writing skills in several TV Series including Makutano Junction, The Team, Chini ya Mnazi, Maria, and Utata (web series).
As an actor, Abubakar has graced over 50 local & international feature films and TV series, earning him numerous accolades, including Best Actor and Supporting Actor awards at Kalasha, Amaa, Ziff & Ion film festivals. These TV series include Makutano Junction, Chini ya Mnazi, Wingu la Moto, Kona, Nganya, and Selina, The films are Nairobi Half-Life, From a Whisper, Killer Necklace, Ngoron’go, Maulidi, The First Grader, Subira & Mission to Rescue.
Abubakar can be seen in the latest TV series "Dagoretti" and the Showmax series "Faithless."
Additionally, he showcased his voice dubbing directing skills as the Dubbing Director for "Sakho and Mangane." A Netflix series.
Abubakar has showcased his writing, directing & voicing skills in radio drama series including; Get - Connected, Ushikwapo Shikamana, Learning by Ear (DW Radio), Nini Kati Yetu, Maisha Pakacha, Salaam and Ni idhaa.
The audio play “Unheard Whispers” co-written & directed by Abubakar in 2023, received massive airplay in Europe.
