Abus Bordo 6000 cut part 3 - Link pin sheared in

House of Chain

9 жыл бұрын

This is a follow up to part 1 and part 2 where we attempted (and succeeded) to cut an Abus Bordo 6000 lock with bolt cutters.
Part 1
• Abus Bordo 6000 (pin) ...
Part 2
• Abus Bordo 6000 VS 30"...
In the previous videos we were able to lay the bike on it's side, since we were cutting the lock for a friend who had lost her keys.
This time we locked the bike in a realistic scenario, on a public street to a bike rack. While there was an initial struggle to wedge the jaws of the bolt cutters past the plastic casing once it was damaged it was easy for the bolt cutters to cut into the link pin. The video is completely unedited an in real time, the only thing cut is the lock!
We sell and stand Abus products, while we were able to cut this lock with, enough time, tools and technique any lock can be compromised. We've tried to represent a realistic scenario as possible.
@abus_lock
More lock video's coming soon!

Looking at this attack if you have this lock you should definitely add some grease to the pivot points it would make it 10 times harder for the bolt cutters to grip enough to do the cutting action I'll guarantee they will continue to slip out and be a pain.. could be enough to make them move on

It is what it is, It’s a good, compact lock for quick stops or as a wheel lock. I have a second 10mm link chain lock, shorty so it doesn’t weigh too much or take up much space, on the e bike for longer stops. If a thief rolls up with a toolbox or a lock picking team and tries to take my bike from the high traffic area I’d park it in the first place, I lose, but it’s worked out so far in San Diego, which is not so classy when it comes to bike theft. 2 small decent locks is the best method I’ve used to date, the only minimal downside is the time needed to use 2 locks, other than that it’s flexible, effective and unobtrusive while riding.

A portable grinder or a hydraulic bolt cutter will destroy ANY bike lock made, in about a minute or two. All bike locks should be TIME rated, meaning , how long does it take to defeat your lock with the above tools. Any bike lock maker that says otherwise ,is selling false hope.

Yes but not in a minute or two. You underestimate the size of some locks. But yes most locks can be defeated with an angle grinder, though some are easier than others and take more time. Mix defence methods and don't park it in stupid places.
@siriosstar4789
@siriosstar4789 2 жыл бұрын
@@WetaMantis i was being conservative with the " minute or two " comment . i have seen many videos where it only took about thirty seconds on a kryptonite U lock with an angle grinder and a thin kerf cutting wheel . the thinner the blade the faster the cut although they don't last very long . A 12 mm or bigger hardened chain is a bit more difficult because the chain needs to rest on something solid so when the cutting begins the chain is pushed away , but a minute or two ? absolutely. i have personally cut the same diameter hardened steel with my battery angle grinder and it only took about a minute .

Good test, i usually get my 450 horsepower 4WD truck and pull away the whole fixation point including bike and half of the pavement. I usually use a 1 inch steel wire to connect to the lamp post or wherever the bike is attached. Good thing is, you can also use the truck for other things like shopping, so it is dual use, not like your tool.

What the fuck is wrong with people thinking there would be a lock for bicycles that can't be broken? There isn't such a system for many way more valuable things. Every car can be stolen, every house can be broken into it's just a matter of how difficult it will be compared to what the thieves will get from it, and how long it will take or rather how exposed the thieves will be while doing it. And the other thing is why even bother with locks that strong when you can cut off that whole bike stand in less time.... 1:30? I've security videos of people stealing high end $100 000+ cars in less time than that. The problem is not the lock, it endures for long enough. The problem are the people passing by and no one giving a shit...

It might still be a decent lock if cutting pin isn't possible with smaller bolt cutters that thieves use more often. Otherwise only 16mm shackle u-locks are too big for those big cutters they have. They slip off 16mm shackle so without angle grinder or very good lock picking skills 16mm u-lock is the only lock that makes your bike safe.

The exception of this rule is of course if your leaving your bike unattended for 8 hours or more or are not near by 2 locks will be better than one at that point just to be safe.

1minute with a 750mm bolt cropper, isn't bad when you look at some other KZbin clips. A D Lock can't do a thick post the same this can.

More like a minute forty-five seconds. Which I would say is fair enough considering... If no one is alerted or he gives up before that. It most likely wouldnt matter if it laster for 5+ minutes
