What a wonderful instructional game! I like your explanations of the game as you made your decisions during your turns. Also liked the fact that you stayed fairly serious and kept the silliness to a minimum. I have never been tempted by KoW before but after watching this video, I'm looking at purchasing the rules. This is a bit late but I wanted to say that this was a great video! And Kings of war is such a great game! My first (and only so far) game went super fast compared to trying to learn a certain other rank and flank game back in the day. It was super fun. Incredibly intuitive. Definitely worth trying out for anyone interested in this sort of game. I can't recommend it enough!

Mic both people, or use a area/boom mic and deal with the noise. It would make for a better atmosphere between two parties, your guest is doing his best with nods and smiles but at time cant contribute (without a cut). Nice game, interested in playing, would enjoy seeing more from you guys. : )

Undeads have lot of phantoms. Wraights & Wights are the main phantoms units and the skeleton horses can be made into spooky phantoms for the looks.

Wavering is unaffected by inspiring because the re-roll could rout a unit instead. That's the main reason why inspiring does not affect wavering.

More kings of war! I'm still pissed at GW for killing WHFB however i still occasionally tune in for old world wars. This was refreshing. I'll definitely watch future KoW videos. Perhaps codex reviews as well? There are a few rules that i'm not a fan of however... The main one being that you can't wipe out a unit and over run in to the next one but back up 1 inch instead and get charged next turn? Who thought that made sense? It doesn't ruin it for me though, bring more vids!

Looks like a fun game, but one question. Shouldn't the roll at 1:03:00 be 5 wounds + 5 roll = 10 so less than 11 and they stay?

Hey dudes great game! Can you clarify one rule for me please? You said the mortar couldn’t be targeted as it was in the woods, but surely there would still be LOS on it right, although it would be -1 to hit. Thanks! Matt. “Terrain does not block LoS drawn to units that are at least partially inside the piece of terrain. If any part of a unit is in a forest, for instance, then other units outside of the forest may draw LoS to the unit in the forest.”

It was mistake from their part. The mortar can both target and be targeted but it gain cover for being in the forest.

Nice batt rep, instead of doing Fantasy roll-fest you should do more of KoW where strategy and tactics really matters. You could take your Khemri Luka and play as Empire of Dust. That would be awesome

I do love 40k a lot but i am also getting back into kow. I plan on playing both so i think my group will love both. The only thing I really didn't like about kow is the models mantic makes. But the newer models are much nicer, so I may give them a chance. Thanks for the video.

I've never played KOW, but from what I saw it looks like the artillery isn't that good. Am I wrong in that?

Its hit and miss. It depend a lot of your faction, what you fight and how much you invest. Using artillery against Night Stalkers is the worst decision ever, but Abyss Dwarfs can become really strong shooters. Basically Luka got screwed in the match, he lost a turn by covering his own mortar and 1 piece of artillery is super unrreliable.

Rules that force you to charge a flank, front or rear of a unit due to positioning, regardless of the unit's actual movement, are just dumb. I can't count the number of times I had 20 inches of charge with my fastest cavalry, only to be forced to charge the front because more than half the unit is within the frontal arc. Isn't the whole point of a fast unit to be flexible?

@@helikontex2467 the whole point of cavalry is to have the power to be flexible and charge flanks. It's very easy for any unit to just pivot on the spot while the cavalry is taking pains to go around, which ends up forcing you to need at least two units for a flanking maneuver. What's the point of paying more points for less models if you can achieve the same effect with two infantry units? You're failing to see the point in an attempt to show off.

Multibasing (one big base with multiple models directly attached to it) is more the standard in this game, which keeps the models much more solidly in place than a bunch of separately based models on a movement tray like MWG did

Good to see a game of 3rd edition being played, almost didn't make it all the way through watching. Who ever was playing as the Abyssal Dwarfs was just too annoying to listen to. Constant over reacting to minor things... really makes the battle report tiresome. The paint jobs were lovely! Really liked the Night Stalkers. Hope to see more Kings of War battle reports in the future.

Basically the same reason GW dropped the lawsuit against Paizo for Starfinder having Elves in space. Somebody else would have been able to use that precedent to sue the crap out of GW (in that case it would have been the Tolkien estate)

@@mrgabest Yes... movement trays have nothing to do with rules... you can get movement trays for AoS too. But soldiers are clever enough to turn around or close gaps when needed... and AoS' free movement does a lot better job at representing that.

@@WlLDEHlLDE In KoW, your entire base is one unit. In any Warhammer game, it's individuals who act like a unit . You maintain cohesion, you can only attack with X number of models who are within Y distance because of Z weapon, etc, etc. All of that time-eating crap that adds nothing of real value to the game was why KoW didn't base it's entire infrastructure on a singular model, rather treating the unit as...well...an actual unit.

@@WlLDEHlLDE AoS is aura hammer. KoW is ranks and flanks so positioning matters, large bodies of soldiers in close order formations move very differently then troops in skrimish order. Some people like things like screening and baiting flank charges etc.
