A good looking bothy Brian, and nice that you put a bit of the history of the place on screen. Looks like a grand night was had & I hope everyone got over the river crossing on the way back without getting their feet too wet lol. I hate river crossings on slippy stones😂😂 a nice escape from the everyday routine, bothies are great for that TFS :)

The fact that you played the quintessential southern United States rock band (Lynyrd Skynyrd) of the 1970’s most famous song, “Free Bird” as background music hooked this American from the south (Arkansas) and is reason enough to subscribe. Carry on brother. 👍🇺🇸

I don’t know how I missed this one. I’ve hiked within sight of it on day hikes a few times and we’ve always commented on the name. I didn’t know it was haunted. A very decent bothy. I’ve never slept in one yet. They will be a welcome escape from the wet/cold/midges. A warm fire and a bit of camaraderie ale-assisted: what could be better!👍👏👏 Good tidy campsite/bothy ethos too. Brilliant stuff Brian.

Believe it or not Tony, there was a strange incident 🧐 I went outside for the call of nature and when I tried to get back in the door 🚪 wouldn't open, I thought 🤔 obviously it was one of my mates but when I actually forced the door open with my shoulder they were sitting in the living area and the glass door was closed, I'm not really into ghost's 👻 and that kind of thing but I certainly can't explain that one 😲 thanks for watching and commenting Tony atb Brian 👍

Bothys are not what they used to be , they were for a shelter for hill walkers , but now used by folk who rarely walk a hill , they come to the bothy for a nights partying or cheap family holidays, If I was to come of the hill in a bad night looking shelter I would not get in, These guys are not interested in the hills
@thelifeofbrian2827 ай бұрын
I kind of get where your coming from but in my own case, I've done over 200 Munro's 🏔️ and many other hills 🏔️ at this particular point the weather as happens often in Scotland was very poor and had been for a weeks, so although it's not a big walk, we three friends decided to brave the weather and head for Abyssinia bothy, yes we had a few beers and met one other young Spanish guy who was visiting Scotland and using the bothy in part of his walk, we offered him a few drinks and exchanged stories regarding adventures large and small, a very pleasant encounter and the young man left in the morning very happy to have spent a lovely night in the bothy commenting how friendly we Scots are, we then set about cleaning the bothy and leaving it the way we found it, if you had appeared that night Phillip you certainly have got into the bothy and been made very welcome, atb Brian 👍

Good wee video enjoyed it. Never knew of this place but maybe not in use in the 60’s / 70’s. Arrochar area “ was fabulous “ parking has buggered it now. We climbed all over the Cobbler, hitched up on Friday night, nobody had a car but it was quite easy, had a couple of beers and went up to the Sucoth caves for the night. Sometimes dodged the beer and walked up into the main Corrie . There was a doss under a big boulder. You could get up early and climb all day. Another night under the boulder and a couple more routes in the morning before the hitch home. Happy days indeed. Bothies were a way of life then and most climbers and weekenders would maintain them themselves. They are becoming like 2* hotels now. Last one I went to in Glen Affric had solar panels ffs. Too old to do any of that now but I do miss it. Keep up the filming, good to see some down to earth stuff.

Thanks so much for your lovely comments Bob, yes things have definitely changed over the years, some good some bad but I think that people like yourself making the effort to get up to the likes of Arrochar and sleeping under Narnains Boulders so that you can get out in the mountains another day before heading home for work is absolutely amazing and shows how dedicated you were to enjoying every moment in the hills, old school indeed and the younger generation could learn a lot from the likes of yourself, again thank you so much and hopefully the next video will keep you tuned in, thanks atb Brian 👍

Are ALL bothies haunted?!? I think this is video number seven I've watched of haunted Scottish bothies (or bothys). Just asking.
@thelifeofbrian2822 ай бұрын
Because they are usually very old buildings, there's always the local stories about people experiencing weird goings on about past occupants still haunting the place, for example the old lady who fed the chickens at Abbyssinnia or the one legged man calling at the bothy in the wee small hours, I think the stories go hand in hand with most old buildings, castles etc, for what it's worth I don't believe in all those ghostly goings on but hand on heart, I went outside for the call of nature and when I tried to re-enter the bothy it felt like someone was applying pressure on the inside of the door, trying to keep me out, I thought 🤔 it was obviously one of my mates playing a prank but when I lost my patience and forced entry by using my shoulder, to my surprise 🫢 I found my two mates where sitting cosily in front of the fire 🔥 and the glass door to that room was firmly closed, there was no way they could have moved that quickly, they confirmed they hadn't moved recently but thought 🤔 maybe the beer 🍺 had kicked in 😂 I know it certainly wasn't the beer 🍺 as it's a simple one push latch and not even a turning handle, kinda strange 😬
