But then they hired Brian Johnson and put out the greatest heavy metal album of all time. And here we are 42 years later. RIP Bon Scott. Gone but never forgotten.🎤

A few notes - Bon was originally a drummer and wrote the lyrics for all their songs until his death. He had two notebooks of lyrics, he'd get an idea and jot down the lines and then Angus and Malcolm would come to him with the music, he'd look into his books to find some lyrics or ideas for lyrics and with his drumming experience, the rhythm of the words was important to him Those notebooks went missing when he died... he had left them to his ex-wife Silver but they could not be found. He was only about 5'3" but would be the first to jump into a fight and was a real scrapper.

AC/DC were signed in Australia in 1974 and released 2 albums there in 1975... they became hugely popular there, and labels from Europe began looking at signing AC/DC internationally. While they were recording the 3rd album 'Dirty deeds done dirt cheap', Atlantic Records in the UK signed the band and released an international debut 'High voltage' album comprised of songs from their first 2 albums in 1976... That same year, AC/DC released 'Dirty deeds' and did their first UK shows to support the 'High voltage' album. Making an international version of 'Dirty deeds' for release in the UK, AC/DC discovered that Atlantic Records in the USA were not happy w/ the sales of 'High voltage' and after they heard 'Dirty deeds', they refused to release it - they deemed it a "poor" record. In 1977, AC/DC were desperate to break out of Australia & recorded the 4th album 'Let there be rock'... They got their label to put the record out in Europe, and then finally convinced the US label to release 'Let there be rock' and put AC/DC on tour in N. America for the first time. After the tragic death of original AC/DC singer Bon Scott in 1980, the band recruited vocalist Brian Johnson and the 1980 album 'Back in black' became a phenomenal hit, selling over 10 million copies in the US alone (25 million today!) ...AC/DC's US label decided to ca$h in on AC/DC's popularity in 1981 by releasing the 'Dirty deeds done dirt cheap' album - it sold 6 million copies.

@CaptainBakerJason2 жыл бұрын
Never? That might be a bit extreme. Certainly the industry media pundits tend to ignore Angus and frankly Malcolm and the group for that matter. Guitarists tend to appreciate what Angus is able to deliver time and again. One of the best things about his play is that it is not so easy to replicate AC/DC in rhythm or lead work. You can hear this in tribute bands for example as even though they have much of the act down, it’s missing some of Angus steak behind the sizzle and soon you realize its more like grizzle. Yet tribute bands often are better than peer rockers playing an AC/DC song in my experience. The Metal press historically gave greater regard to Angus than the elites of the music industry press. In that respect, Angus is in a distinguished guitar-god pantheon that aren’t given their due respect, eh? The brilliance of the art will prove it’s value independent of the elites who rank the artists. 💪🏻🎸🎶👍🏻

AC/DC had the core of the band - Angus Young (lead guitar) and Malcolm Young (rhythm guitar) who founded the band in 1973. Malcolm Young was forced to retire in 2013... their nephew Stevie Young replaced Malcolm & played guitar on the last 2 AC/DC albums. Bon Scott joined in 1974 and did the vocals for the first 6 studio albums by AC/DC and their 1978 live album. He passed away in 1980. Brian Johnson joined in 1980 as the vocalist, and has been the singer on all AC/DC albums since 'Back in black' in 1980. Phil Rudd joined on drums in 1975 and played on AC/DC's second album (in Australia). He was fired in 1983 due to drug problems... He returned in 1995 and played drums for AC/DC until he was arrested in 2014. The band replaced him on tour, but he returned to record their latest album in 2020. Cliff Williams (bass) joined AC/DC in 1977 and played on all their records from 1978 til today... he announced his retirement in 2016, but did return w/ Phil Rudd and Brian Johnson to record their last album in 2020. Mark Evans (bass) joined AC/DC in 1975 and played on the first 4 AC/DC albums - he left the band in 1977. Simon Wright (drums) joined AC/DC in 1983 and played on 2 studio albums - he quit in 1989. Chris Slade (drums) joined AC/DC in 1990 for 1 album & 1 live record before Phil Rudd came back around 1994. After Rudd was arrested in 2014, Slade played drums on the 2015 - 2016 AC/DC world tour.

I discovered AC/DC in 1979. Been listening since I was 5 reciting early Beatles tracks in the mid 1960s. In the 1990s I watched my music world fade away as the younger turned to rap, proclaiming current music as "what my mom and dad listen to", which I assume was some form of turn-off. Today I see younger folk listening to music from my era (60's, 70's, 80's) and saying "This is awesome. What happened? Why did it go away?" Truly, the introduction of the digitized .MP3 song in the late 1990s, which can be copied perfectly with no loss in quality, the RIO digital player and the ability to illegally share songs with millions of strangers around the world via Napster, Limewire and similar files sharing sites killed the entire recording industry as we knew it. Rock clubs and record stores slowly vanished. A damn shame. Keep it alive, guys. Let the music play.
