As someone who grew up with Armored Core, I am nostalgic when it comes to Apple Boy, simply because he also partakes in the raven test in Armored Core 3, and optionally helps you out in some other missions throughout the game!

The side-hero Layered needed, but not the one it deserved. I kinda wish we saw him in Silent Line, but perhaps it's better he didn't come back. They'd have likely had him get offed by a Big White out of spite.

Considering how many Ravens got did dirty in Silent Line, yea I think it's better he stayed out of the fray. But it's also a shame. I read somewhere he was supposed to have been available as a consort for AC3's final mission.
