Professor J. Nelson Amaral (University of Alberta) takes us on a journey illuminating the possibilities of high-performance computing (HPC). He begins by asking what characterizes HPC, before comparing market sizes for different areas of computing, along with innovative application areas for HPC. After a discussion of how benchmarking influences HPC development, he considers the road ahead for HPC. This class also includes a detailed analysis of HPC programming.
First lecture of J. Nelson Amaral's HPC course at ACACES summer school, organized by HiPEAC.
