Academia responds to black swan events: two scenarios

How can academics respond to events which are statistically unlikely, but which have a massive impact when they do occur?
This week the Future Trends Forum offers its first Black Swan scenario. Ruben Puentedura and Bryan Alexander will present two hypothetical events, then participants will react to them in the roles they currently have (or wish to have). We will then reflect on the scenario to create insights about how colleges and universities might anticipate such events.

Spiritually I would involve the native farmers and people that live where corn is grown and cows are taken care of. Organize rituals or events that promote awareness, study the history of the land, try to make the land spirits aware and involve the local intelligence of nature-- this can be something the first nations people teach. Also cut back consumption of red meat and corn considerably but this probably has to be done through ration but slowly.
