Hello, does any one of these recorders record in stereo through the mic input jack? I'm planning to buy one just for recording the stereo line output from my digital piano. Thanks!
@_weloty4 жыл бұрын
Yes they both will record stereo from the mic input. I'd recommend buying the 470, it's only $6 more and records wav format - very important if you plan to edit your recordings.

@@_weloty I see, the 470 is indeed much more worth it than the 370. Thanks for the reply! 👍

Mono vs stereo (lectures, interviews vs one for that and music, etc.). But if one was seriously recording music would I use a device such as this? 370 can work for many hours.

I got both recorders. Love em but they lack one touch recording which I hate

Also would have loved 320kbps mp3 on the px470 since I use it to record music from a tape deck for example

If you are asking about backlight, then no. The PX470 does not have backlight.

Good video . I was going to buy one of these but I wasn't sure which one . I have a question . When I record a short recording , let's say for example a 5 minute recording , is there an option on the 470 to save that recording and enter a title for each recording .
@_weloty3 жыл бұрын
No, you don't get that option. The recorder automatically assigns the date and time as the name of the each recording. I own a lot of recorders and not one of them offers this option. Sad.

Thanks for an awesome review. I was going to buy the 370 over the 240 because it has the USB so it makes it easy to transfer to computer. Now I am in doubt after this review. I plan to record university lectures only (I study mathematics and it's just better to playback the lecture while going through the notes taken during the lecture). Would you still recommend the 470 over 370 in that case? Now it's the double microphone speaking for it and thus the audio quality but I don't really need 18 sensivity options, etc. :)
@_weloty4 жыл бұрын
Always recommend the 470 over the 370. Don't underestimate your need for microphone gain control. More granular control of your mic sensitivity setting makes a huge difference. And you have to think of your recorder as an investment. You might not need a specific function now, you might need it in the future, so for a few dollars more you can future-proof...

@@_weloty Thanks for the swift reply. I ordered the 470 now :) I guess that means you'll have to lend a helping hand with the sensitivity settings for a lecture!! ;)

Great, I'd start with the medium sensitivity setting with focus or wide, monitor in your location and see what setting works best. Check out this post: weloty.com/how-to-monitor-the-sound-quality-of-your-interview/, I specifically wrote it for monitoring interviews, while using the ux560, but the general idea works for lectures and other recorders. Also check out this post: weloty.com/best-voice-recorder-for-lectures/, it does have a few tips on recording lectures: the importance of proximity and recording etiquette.

@@_weloty Arhh!! Thank you so much! I shall definitely give these a thorough read! I've just put the batteries into the 470 and did a voice test with default settings (always cringe to hear once's own voice, heh!). Here in Denmark it is bedtime so I will dedicate some time tomorrow to your posts. You have been most helpful and I am so happy. Plentiful thanks :)

@@_weloty I read your posts now, great posts. I liked the one specially where you explained when you had recorded your lectures :) It's also true it gives a more calm feel that the lecture can be rewinded and relistened to. I lose out on incredibly much info when I'm just desperately trying to keep up with taking notes. Thanks again Isaac! :)

hey, im not sure which i should buy, either the zoom h1n, the 470 sony or the 370, sony my purpose is to put the recorder into my jeans/jacket pocket and record my lessons in university that way, (some teachers domt like recorders). so which of those 3 recorders do you think will suit me best? i need as clear audio as possible but trough my clothing or a t shirt. great video by the way and i liked how you helped that guy in your comments on which recorder to choose so i thought i try aswell. Keep it up!
@bekoa.43503 жыл бұрын
also let me add, the 370 is 50 euros here and the 470 is 80 euros because amazon ships them internationaly to me
@_weloty3 жыл бұрын
My advice would be to try and get the university to allow you to record your lectures, so you don't have to place the recorder in your pocket. None of these recorders are going to record good sound if you place them inside a pocket or bag. If your lecture hall have speakers, then you can place the recorder close a speaker and you will capture good quality audio. Alternatively, sit at the front of the class (get the 470) or place the recorder on the teacher's podium (get the 370). If you place any recorder in your shirt/trouser pocket, don't expect to get a good audio recording. More info, check out this post: weloty.com/best-voice-recorder-for-lectures/

@@_weloty thanks, i have read that now. i bought the zoom h1n how do you think does that compare to the 470? in terms of being able to pick up voices in a big room for example or just in general,
@bekoa.43503 жыл бұрын
@@_weloty do you think it will be a problem for recording at uni when i stick to the 370? since it has mono sound only compared to 470? will it be a noticable difference?
@_weloty3 жыл бұрын
If you place it close to the teacher, you shouldn't see any noticeable difference.

I have a 470. Using external mic and high or medium sensitivity I find recordings have a lot of hiss. I record outdoors in nature, would be fine for voice. Note that the built in filters do not work using external input (according to Sony). Really easy to use, but disappointed.
@_weloty3 жыл бұрын
1. The built-in filters DO work with with external mic input (MIC IN), but not the external Audio IN input. You should use the MIC IN setting for external microphones, the Audio IN is for all other external inputs (phones, Mixer etc). So use the MIC IN setting and the filters will work. 2. Don't know the external mic that you are using, but high/medium gain settings are too high. My go to external lav mic is the giant squid and I find that the low gain setting can be too high in some instances. There are occasions where I use the music low setting, which is a lower gain than the voice low setting. It could be that you are using a "cold mic" and you are always going to get a lot of hiss because you'll have to use high gain settings on this recorder. 3. If using a filter and lower gain does not reduce the hiss, then you probably have a faulty recorder or microphone. And these are voice recorders, the work best at recording human voices...

The 470 a way much better.370 have to much white noise.I bought Sony ICD-PX 470. The recorder works like a charm. The sound quality is very clear! I can't say enough nice things about this small recorder. It is easy to use. It gives very clear crisp recordings and picks up sounds in its neighbourhood easily. More than happy with the quality.
