Thank you Matt glad you love the look of the BF-109 in late war Hungarian markings. It was fun project to both research and make decals for. Hope this inspires you to make some more custom decals for your models

That's a very nice build. I'm definitely going to try your mottling technique the next time I build a 109.

Thank you I am glad to hear that you are keen try this painting technique on a model BF-109 (or even a FW-190). My advice to test it on an old model (or piece of cardboard), until you feel comfortable to apply it on the models paint work.

Very nice work on that great looking aircraft. I enjoyed seeing this come together and painted. I have to ask, what was your ratio to thinning the paint for brushing. I love painting those little planes and don’t use an airbrush, but find it a little bit thick at times. Thanks for sharing.

Thank You I am happy to hear you loved the look of the model. And enjoyed watching the video. As for how much I thin my paint. Its often about three drops of paint to a drop of thinner. In the video when I am doing the mottling, you can see I use a paint pallet and an eye dropper for this task. Not too thin like what I do in the mottling section. Just enough to get the paint flowing a bit easier. I also use soft synthetic hair paint brushes. Flat Heads for flat surfaces, with the strokes running from nose to tail, then wing root to wing tip. With the paint in two to three thin layers. I hope this is of some help to you.

I just finished this one myself. Naturally, I broke off the antennae. I'll need to glue it back. I'll also have to revisit the video for the part about DIY decals. This one sat on my paint shelf for quite a while because the camo scared me. Mine turned out all right. Great work. And my pitot tube has been threatening removal since I cut the wing from the sprue.

Thank you. I am sorry to hear you had a few issues with this kit. And were also a bit scared about tackling the camo scheme. But I am happy to hear that you were able to finish the model. After sitting on the shelf for a while. In fact, I have got a few ongoing projects that are sitting on my shelf. Which I need to finish one of these days. Anyway, you should be proud with yourself for completing your BF-109. Finding the motivation to complete a project is always a good thing. Good luck with all your ongoing projects. And thanks for watching.

I did this kit with the same homemade livery. In my case, I reproduced the photo of the crash landing with a small vignette.

Well done that sounds awesome. Loved the fact you recreated V8 53 in its wrecked state, on a small vignette. I might have to make a wrecked aircraft diorama one of these days…….

I started the hobby a little while ago and this bf 109 is my first kit ever. I'm going to paint it using brushes. Any recommendations for a beginner modeler? (Also great job fella)

Let me welcome into the wonderful world of scale modelling. It is always nice to hear from someone just getting involved with this hobby. When it comes to brush painting a scale models. I have found is always best to have a good collection of Flat Head and Round Head brushed, that have soft bristles. As for brush painting a model aircraft. Its always best to try and have the brush strokes running from nose to tail. And from the wing roots out to the wing tips. And apply thin layers of paint in at least 2-3 coats. With a good amount of drying time between each coat. If you want to attempt the mottled camouflage on your BF-109, as seen in the video. Just take your time with it. And above all have fun with this hobby. Hope this is of some help for you.

If you want a bit simpler paintjob for the first one, I can recommend the Academy BF-109 G-14. it's the plane of Erich Hartmann, and has an overall white paintjob, with the unique markings supplied as decals.

The black primer fills any tiny cracks and gives the color layer better adherence to the plastic.

Well said @Chilly_Billy, that is exactly what primer can do. It also shows up if you have missed any gaps or putty. That needs to be sanded or refilled. Hope this helps you in your modelling.
