This is a pretty cool build, Chris. Looking forward to seeing more.

I just found this one from the ages. An excellent tutorial and intro for those who are new to the hobby. Recommended for the beginners to promote fun, some success and a sense of satisfaction. Good too for the modeler who forgot some basics like me. Only 77 "likes?" Compare that stat with the current number (2019). Well done.

Thank you Vince. I'm sure it's old hat to the guys that have been building, but I'm sure there are plenty of new folks watching too, so that's why I like to bring up stuff that people like you and I take for granted each time we build.

It may be old hat to those who build ships regularly, but us newbie's to styrene ships can use to here them. :)

Enjoyed your Part 1 update on this build. Very informative, even it you didn't want to get into the two types of airbrushes. :-). I have a big laundry tub myself that I use to wash parts. Afterwards I tend to spray on some Adhesion Promoter before applying the paint. Keep up the good work on this build!

I am a lover of tall ships, and this looks ilke it's going to be a beauty. My only question was when you hand painted the hull, why didn't you mask off the top so you had a crisp line, or will the weathering done later on obscure that? just curious...I haven't touch a model kit since I was a young kid (11 or so, and am 44 now) and want to get back into it, and this time do it right with some airbrushing....been wathing a TON of vids, and I appreciate the explanations and dedication to authenticity. One other question, this is about the sails. The rope lines on them, will those be hand painted a 'rope' color, or dry brushed a darker color to stand out, or left alone? Just curious, keep up the good work. You got a def sub and a link for this vid and all the others. One more follow up and I promise I'll stop bugging you. What is the reasoning behind using acrylic on boats and the like, but water based on cars (I may not have the right terminology, sorry about that, I'm a total noob). Thanks again! Steve

I left the ropes along and just shaded near them, I generally ignore them. Acrylic paints are water based. They dry fast in minutes and are very easy to work with and clean up. Lots of times the car modelers will use laquers (solvent based paints) and enamels because they dry with a very very hard and very glossy finish which is what you want on a car body. I spray my cars with flat acrylics, then clear with a nice laquer like Testors GlossCote.

hpiguys Workshop oh ok it makes total sense now. And I saw they finished detail and it looked great. I hopefully will start model building myself soon. Starting with smaller class ships and cars. Want to airbrush but can't afford it. Amy ideas? I already have a 32gal compressor just n Ed the fittings for an airbrush kit. Do you do air brushing as well? Sorry if you do, I'm having a brain fart at the moment. I've seen some cheap brush kits that work well enough for a beginner like me. Any suggestions on the cheap? And keep up the good work and thanks for replying.

Beautiful ship. Im looking to buy one, how much did you pay for yours?
@hpiguy6 жыл бұрын
You can find them online for under $20. They were also made by Lindberg, same kit.
