Acadia was not an Englisg territory from 1604 to 1755. It was fought over many times and finally became a British colony in 1713 under the Treat of Utrecht. I suspect the gun on the wall is a smooth bore musket not a rifle. Rifles were rather rare until the later part of the nineteenth century.
