Acadiana Café was a beloved Cajun and Southern-style restaurant that we first discovered in 2004. Since then, we became regular diners and enjoyed many meals there. Recently, we learned that the café has been sold, and the owner is retiring. Although we weren't there for the full thirty-eight years of its operation, we were fortunate to enjoy its hospitality for the last twenty years.
Acadiana Café was renowned for its award-winning catfish and seafood, with trophies displayed around the dining area. The walls were also adorned with autographed pictures of celebrities who had dined there. The café’s menu featured staples such as chicken and dumplings, Cajun cabbage, and red beans and rice. For an extra Cajun kick, alligator was also available, which was my personal favorite. The property and menu have been acquired by the Hacienda Vallarta Restaurant Group, which means that a new Mexican restaurant will soon replace Acadiana Café. We already have too many Mexican restaurants in the area. It’s unfortunate to see the loss of such food diversity in San Antonio, Texas.
