Thank you Brad Yeah the old cover up half the screen trick, remember we used to do that for gh1 to simulate hyper speed? It's not a placebo. Hyperspeed makes the game easier not because the notes are coming at you faster, but because there are less notes on the screen for your brain to process. So yeah, covering up part of the screen does the part of hyperspeed that actually helps your brain without speeding up the fretboard

5:23 Well, IIDX players have been doing this way back before SUD+ was a thing. It's not a placebo, it's how much information you can process at a time, and in times with limited and/or really small selection of scrolling speeds, helped a lot to focus.

The towel over the screen is actually a common technique in other rhythm games as it narrows your line of sight and allows you to process notes on an average that you're more used to. It compensates for more limited speeds.

Are you using hopos in the strumming? Wtf man...
@RaventhortheWarrior6 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. I saw him not consistent strumming, and I was like, why are there little gaps in his strumming? Then I noticed he was ACTUALLY just HOPO'ing, and it blew my mind that he had that much faith in his timing instead of just going in a rhythm. What a straight madman.
@TextureOfCouch6 жыл бұрын
Wait, most people don’t use the HOPO’s? I used them on everything in GH2 except for Trogdor and that strumming bit in Jordan Solo C.
@moshimic56286 жыл бұрын
NunoVH Sorry for asking, but what’s hopos?
@RaventhortheWarrior6 жыл бұрын
@@moshimic5628 Hammer-On, Pull-Off's. The official name for the method in guitar, but in GH, it's just the white notes that you can just tap without strumming, as long as you haven't missed a note. Once you miss, you have to restrum again. But, you CAN just strum the HOPO anyway. The reason we're surprised, is that you could easily just get into an 'easier' rhythm during that section by having consistent strumming, but he's specifically segmenting himself into "1-HOPO-3-Strums" My guess is the timing window of GH2 makes it too risky to strum everything if it automatically reads him as hitting the HOPO
@NunoVH6 жыл бұрын
HOPO = acronym for hammer-ons and pull-offs If you look at the fast strumming at 1:38, you'll notice each group of four notes starts with a hopo. It used to be (and still is) common practice to strum through all of them in strumming streaks like that to keep your strum speed consistent. Putting gaps in your strumming (which Alec is doing) is much more difficult because of the timing window/strum limit. If he strums even slightly too fast while doing that, he'll miss.

The engine differences in this game between versions are really interesting. I believe that PS2 version has tighter HOPOs and the 360 version has tighter strumming? With both the 360 and NTSC PS2 having something like a 17nps strum limit and the PAL PS2 version having a slightly higher strum limit, making Trogdor actually FCable. The strum limit and the tighter strum window of the 360 version of GH2 certainly creates the perfect storm for the faster strumming songs being a real pain in the ass.

You really have to play it for yourself. Like I said, I don’t know a lot of the technical stuff around it, but the PS2 version’s strumming is much easier than the Xbox 360 version
@supermarble946 жыл бұрын
@@acai28 I personally didn't find any difference between the Xbox 360 and the PS2 NTSC versions, but on the PS2 you could use SwapMagic to force it to output in PAL 50 Hz, which due to some stupid way of how the game handles the different frequencies, ups the strum limit by a good 1.5 NPS, making gallops easier to do without dropping a strum, and most importantly makes Trogdor actually possible to FC.

Btw, pretty sure all Harmonix rhythm games are programmed so the timing windows shrink depending on how close the next note is to it. This is especially apparent in Rock Band games as slow sections have massive timing windows and speed picking sections have more standard-sized windows.
