So the actual reason why RB charts have hidden notes in the BRE is for the guitarists and bassists to animate properly. Both the onstage guitarists and bassists strum whenever a note passes by in the chart, so the BRE has hidden notes so the guitarist's hand is still playing and isn't static. This is also why drums typically doesn't have these notes, as drums are animated manually via MIDI notes.

guitar hero mimics similar rules to an actual guitar. What you’re looking at is a hammer on and pull off sequence, in this case a trill. Guitar Hero allows you to hold down a lower note and only tap a higher note if they’re singular. Another good example of this is Through The Fire and Flames’ intro
