You sent me so many great questions that I will have to do a second video! Here we talk about: Whether or not it's a good time to recover from HA, why injury takes longer to heal when you are energy deficient, how to deal with anxiety, how to handle people's unhelpful comments, what's going on in Italy right now and more. I get to personal stuff at 15:01 so if you'd like to skip it, I won't judge. You can schedule mentoring calls with me below...stay safe, stay healthy!

I had my period yesterday after 1,5 year! My recovery process was really fast! I basically decided to consider the quarantine as an opportunity for me to recover, because i quited of course the gym and everything ,i didn t have to wake up at 6 to go to work and i ate a lot! Basically carbs!! I was following strictly keto diet and intermitted fasting before, which i understand now was a desaster for my reproductive system!! You made me believe i could make it, you were such an inspire for me!! Thank you so much, a million times!

Can we all just acknowledge how wonderful Jill is!? She is providing us with valuable information on overtraining etc for free.I cannot express enough how fortunate I feel for finding her channel.I hope you know how amazing you are Jill and how much we appreciate you! I have not had a rest day for a year.....I am getting close to taking one after listening to the benefits of taking one (I already knew one was important but turned a blind eye).But, b/c of you I am one step closer!👍❤️

So glad you are back! Thank you for speaking to the anxiety that is the general source of our need to feel control over our nutrition, exercise, and physique appearance. In times like these, I think I tend to revert back to restriction and over training because it’s the one thing I feel I can have control over... the pandemic is so far above me, I can’t control any of it. It’s so scary, and my response has been to return to those old habits that caused my HA. :/

Yes. This is 100% normal. However, it's not sustainable. For example, you can go ahead and restrict/exercise to much and it will probably make you less anxious for a short time...a temporary high. But, it will eventually make you sick, HA returns, your mood is down, depression and guilt seep in and before you know it, you're back to anxiety. A better plan is to develop a sustainable plan for anxiety management that eliminates the high highs and the low lows. I will talk more about this in the weeks to come! For now, it's important to think: will this work long term? Can I do this forever? If the answer is NO...keep looking for another solution. Sending love!

If you are under weight and can not seem to be able to eat more because of digestive issues(this was me) try drinking more healthy calories to get in more food without stuffing yourself to uncomfortable levels. I recommend whole milk (If you can drink it) or other a milkshake with a non dairy milk such as oat . Beck throw in a banana or peanut butter and make it fast good. Or make a chocolate milk home made if you don't like the flavor. I myself am still recovering and with HA and became underweight. Eating enough was very hard in my first week. But adding in more calories in my beverages such as milk or even dream in your coffee. (Use non dairy if needed) was a more comfortable way to refuel without feeling like I needed to bring or just eat every two minutes.

Thank you so much for talking about „force feating“. As you know many people recommend to be eating at least 2500 kcal a day which is really hard for me and i feel like these worries about eating enough are even putting more harmful stress on my body:(

(Disclaimer: my opinion in the video was based on a person NOT having an eating disorder.) Yes. It seems ridiculous to me to tell people "don't focus on numbers, but focus on THIS number". The idea is to create sustainable habits that allow you to fuel yourself properly for life. I am not saying to back off from eating an adequate amount of calories, of course. I am also not saying that it won't be hard sometimes...but, we do want to decrease stress, overall.

Thank you so so much for this video Jill. I live in London and it's been a lockdown here since 24th March. I have been trying to recover from HA (3yrs no period), but I lost appetite and not sleeping great because of the axiety of this corona situation. I have been journallung on this, I realise I have a fear of changes, the unknowns, and not having control. I will try to eat in a way of nourishing and to take care of myself... Sending you love. Take care, stay safe xx

I enjoy your videos very much. I’m glad you’re back! In your experience/research have you come across anything about athletes going through a time of being MORE injury prone AFTER weight restoration and HA/Red-S recovery? Does it take time for the body to become accustomed to its new size/shape? Or could it be weaknesses coming out from the period of restriction, and they are only now showing up?
@jillcolangelopsych
@jillcolangelopsych 4 жыл бұрын
This is a complex issue and I am glad you asked. The answer is too long for me to post here, but I will address it in the future. For now, I always tell people that HA & OTS are like frostbite in the sense that once it happens to you, you are that much more susceptible to it happening again. You are going to be much more sensitive to all kinds of stress. The other part of this is that you are right-there might be underlying tissue compromise/weakness due to previous energy deficiency. We know this to be true with bones...we also know that healing from injury is compromised in times of low energy availability so certain things may not have healed properly... There's more to it, but hope this helps for now!

The only thing holding me back is I get full easily so have to force feed myself calorie dense foods even when i am full up... yet i still cant eat enough? I have just had dinner and now in the daily physical pain from eating too much
@jillcolangelopsych
@jillcolangelopsych 4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if perhaps you are using the term "force-feeding" when you mean "trying to eat more" ...it's also unclear if you mean that you have pain because you are literally expanding your stomach or if it is the normal GI discomfort we would associate with eating more/different things...

Beautiful hair!!! Ok, so I think it’s worth mentioning that I was a marathoner and then suffered from HA after a divorce triggered severe anorexia. I also highlighted my hair occasionally (maybe twice per year). In recovery my hair started to fill back in. I went to get my hair highlighted and my hair and scalp were severely burned (never happened before). It could have been negligence on the part of the hair dresser or maybe there is a correlation to nutrient deficiency, hair composition, and chemical reaction? 🤔. It made me wonder because of your past experience.

Excellent question!! And thank you for the compliments. I know that my hair was ok when I was going to my wonderful hairdresser back in Rhode Island (Hello Nikki at Salon 951...honestly if anyone is in PVD...go see Nikki!!), but then the products were different here in Italy and I got impatient. Also they have a very different aesthetic here...sigh. It might be a combination of hair composition and just bad service :( But in general, hair is very much affected by our nutrition!
@jennesset1102
@jennesset1102 4 жыл бұрын
acaseofthejills Agreed. I have an identical twin who sees the exact same hairdresser, and I wasn’t sitting there long enough to be over processed, but my hair burned none the less. I can’t wait until my roots grow out long enough to chop my hair and grow it out naturally. You are very blessed to have such beautiful curls. Mine is soooo straight.

I have IBS with GI symptoms including excessive loose bowel motions (which makes it easy for me to loose weight as I don’t digest food properly) and painful bloats. I find it difficult to manage but it’s definitely better since avoiding foods like dairy and gluten etc..I was wondering if this condition would make recovery from HA more difficult and how to best approach both these conditions together? Lots of love 💕

I have videos on my personal recovery having Celiac disease, so I would go ahead and check some of those out. I would also advise you to work with a certified nutritionist who can help you find the foods that work for your conditions. My advice is this: look deep inside to understand if you have the tendency to use your IBS as an excuse to not eat enough. I was guilty of this with Celiac and once I recognized it, recovery became less stressful. Good luck to you!

The current pandemic situation is throwing EVERYONE off. Our baseline stress level is quite high which will set us up for menstrual irregularities. Best solution: manage stress through meditation or other self care, reduce physical stress of exercise, eat well (don’t restrict or skip food groups), and REST! Extra sleep helps! Be kind to you!
