Oh the sanctions not only did not hurt Russia it actually helped! Here's how, prior to Russia being closed out of the international banking system billions were being moved out of the country each year through rather corrupt processes. When the oligarchs could no longer do this they had, HAD to invest in Russian industries. In other words they are now pouring money back into their country rather than buying up real estate around the globe.

Russia is the largest (by landmass) and most ressources rich country in the world and it has 150 million inhabitants. That's big enough in all regards to produce each and every item of modern technology inside the country. What the Western sanctions promoted is a development that Russia should have embarked on from the moment the USSR dissolved. Frankly, a country like Russia building its own gas turbines is not a particularly superb achievement. It's something that is just normal. NOT building those machines in country but importing them from abroad is foolish and abnormal in many regards. If you oppose globalization and want to offer a true alternative to this insane manner of running things you must become independent in all aspects of modern technology.
