The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic league in the United States. Founded in 1953 in Greensboro, North Carolina, the ACC sanctions competition in twenty-five sports in Division I of the NCAA for its twelve member universities: Boston College Eagles, Clemson Tigers, Duke Blue Devils, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Miami Hurricanes, North Carolina Tar Heels, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Virginia Cavaliers, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Wake Forest Demon Deacons. In 2011, the conference announced it was adding Syracuse and Pittsburgh to expand to fourteen members beginning in the 2013 academic year. In 2012, the ACC announced it would add Notre Dame in all sports but football and hockey.

This gives me chills! My Mom is from Rocky Mount and Phil is one of my favorites. My 13 year old daughter has gotten 2 pictures with him (one of which we posted on the video board at Smith Center) and he could not have been nicer or classier! We love you Phil!!!!

You might not think Phil is the best point guard UNC ever had (I disagree) but you can't argue with the fact that he was the most FUN to watch play. And, like his coach, he's just an incredibly outstanding person.

I was there at his final game when he had 34 against dook. Many of his shots would have been threes today, but there was no 3 point line when Phil played. He is my UNC hero. I dribbled the ball twice at the free throw line because of Phil. The best point guard to ever play college basketball.

They changed the rules of basketball because of Phil Ford's four upraised fingers. There should be a picture of him making this gesture next to his jersey in the rafters; simply retiring his jersey number wasn't enough. Maybe there has been a better player at UNC, but none more valuable, ever. Thanks for all those memories, Phil.

I'm a Philly area Big 5 fan, and went to Penn - I'm not naturally, an ACC guy. Having said that, if you ask me for my all-time college basketball team (in over 50 years of fandom) give me Phil Ford at the point, and David Thompson as the off-guard. Frontcourt could be debated. Jabbar or Walton at center, and lots of candidates at forward, perhaps, even Marques Johnson and Larry Bird.
