A little late to comment on this excellent video, but for those considering either in the used market these days: The Q3 is basically a VW. The Q5 is definitely an Audi. Yes, the brands share platforms, but… My partner was looking to replace her previous SUV. Here’s why she went with the Q5 over the Q3: The Q3 has no heated steering wheel option and no heated rear seat option. That’s a deal killer in the Pacific Northwest. The Q5 MMI is much safer and less messy with no touch screen. Yes, the newer Q5’s have it now…but the rotary dial seems a lot faster. In the used car market the price differential between comparable model years of the Q5 versus the Q3 is a bit more compressed. For a couple thousand dollars more you can get the Q5 and it’s a much better ride and overall great user experience. The Q5 is the most popular car in the Audi portfolio… If not the entire compact luxury SUV market. There’s a reason why…

I am buying the 2019 Q3 Prestige, Turbo Blue with Orange Alcantara, to downsize from a 2016 MDX. Perfect interior space, overall length, height, and tech features - for less than a Q5 Premium. I like that it is shorter in length for city parking, and shorter height for ease of getting in and out. I am male in my late 50s.

7:58 The Q3 does have a garage door opener. It’s programmed in the MMI. You can even program the multi-use button on the streering wheel to operate it. I’ve been using it since I have my new Q3.

I drove two Q3’s for 7 years now. Two different leases and they’re not as bad as you describe. I do agree that the Q5 is a much smoother drive but I couldn’t justify the more expensive monthly payments.

I am a female and just bought my Q5 last week, upgrading from a 2018 Subaru Forester. The Q5 was an easy choice over the Q3 for me... I drove the Q3, then the Q5 immediately after, the difference was unreal. The Q5 feels like it has much more power and the handling was more responsive.

When you put your ego to the side, the q3 is just as good and in some ways better than the q5. I just got a great deal on a q3 and have no regrets about the decision. Coming from Mercedes’ I do wish the ambient lighting was added to the plus line, but at least I can get those after market.

Female here! The Q3 does NOT have ventilated seats! (nor is it an option) The Q5 does have ventilated seats as an option. So that is a deal breaker for me.... in TEXAS we NEED Ventilated seats. I won't even consider a vehicle anymore without it. Also having wireless charging is important to me...(just much easier) so guess I will have to wait for them to add that... Hopefully 2020?

I drove a 2020 Q3 after being pleasantly surprised by the size of the SUV in the showroom. I sat in a Q5 in the showroom. The infotainment system, wireless CarPlay and charging were HUGE pluses in the Q3 over the Q5. The dash/console features of the Q5 just felt old and outdated and as a result, I had no interest in driving one. The Q3 steering wheel felt cheap (USA) and the pick up was so slow. Turns out my Outback 0-60 is faster. The lack of acceleration and responsiveness upon “hitting the gas” was THE reason I left the dealer without buying the Q3. If the Q5 had the same infotainment, wireless CarPlay and charging as the Q3 with faster acceleration, I would consider buying one.

I think you are spot on, if coming from a vehicle that is faster than the Q3.. or most that drive a 6 cyl. The 2020 Q3 is faster than the older generation, and depending on the type of driver you are the tech isn’t enough for someone to take the plunge. If you load up a Q3, then you are getting close to mid level territory on a Q5. Your needs will be address in 8 months when the 2021 Q5 is updated to match the Q3. Thanks for commenting!

View over traffic is never given a numerical value in car reviews and yet it’s the main reason SUVs excel. Is there a way to produce a chart showing such a statistic? Yes, Because Q3 residuals aren’t strong, or the rate is higher...the Q5 is the volume vehicle and they are a better value. However it’s about what you want. So buy what you want!

Yes, depending on which market you are in, it is an option at the second level and an option on the base model.

BLACK OPTIC PACKAGE, COLD WEATHER PACKAGE, WARM WEATHER PACKAGE, FLAT BOTTOM STEERING WHEEL, MEMORY BUTTON FOR DRIVER SEAT, POWER FOLDING MIRRORS / UNLESS YOU GET A PRESTIGE TRIM, WINDOWS DO POWER OPEN WITH UNLOCK HOLD BUTTON ON A KEY, BUT DONT CLOSE, INTERIOR LED LIGHTING PACKAGE ONLY HAS 2 PARALLEL 6" STRIPS AND NOTHING ELSE. THE ENGINE NOISE AS OTHERS MENTIONED IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A LUXURY VEHICLE. THE OLD KEY DESIGN IS JUST NOT EXPLAINABLE. ANOTHER QUALITY FLAW IS DOOR PANELS, THEY SQUEEK IF YOU PUSH THE TOP OF IT WHILE OPENING THE DOOR.

One of the problems with the new Q3 is the high leasing costs compared with the Q5, here in the UK anyway. This is because of the low residuals experienced with the old Q3 which was not a great car. It seems crazy that Audi Finance deals on the new Q3 are so poor, as I think the residuals on this totally new car are going to be much better. So it is a Q5 for me as they are cheaper.

I think Audi made a huge mistake by eliminating the CD/DVD player in the Q3. It's one of those things that differentiated it from most of the competition. It may be true that people aren't using them anymore, but some people ARE. Also, the Q3 having no cooled seats even as an option is a huge miscue as well. You can get those even on Hyundai products costing ten thousand dollars less!

@@ACCELER8TV you should be aware that higher octane fuel will provide more power and efficiency. Additionally (in the UK) higher octane fuels contain more cleaners = less carbon build up in the cylinder. Note all Direct injections engines also suffer carbon build up behind the valves and over time will reduce performance. Lower grade fuels cause 'knock' so the engine ECU will back off the timing, hence lower power and efficiency. You should recommend to your customers to fuel with the highest grade fuel available - Talk to any knowledgeable Audi tech. HTH.

I am a lady and I'm debating between the Q3 and the Q5. The Q5 has a much more comfortable ride and handling, but I don't know if it's worth $10k more. I don't need the additional room in the Q5, and I like the idea of using regular gas in the car. I do a lot of highway and city driving (typically an hour commute during rush hour traffic for work) so I need something that I enjoy driving and can maneuver quickly. I can get a Q5 today, but will have to order a Q3 and wait four months...

Update: I bought the Q5 three months ago, and love it. I test drove the Q3 and Q5 back to back and the Q5 has a much better ride, though I still enjoy the aesthetics of the Q3 more.

Audi Q3 is a great-designed car! I am disappointed with the poor fuel economy of Audi Q3. Audi Q5 does has better fuel economy with higher HP and torque... Q3 does run on regular fuel vs. Q5's premium fuel, which may make up some of the inefficiency. Q5's better fuel economy could be due to its updated Quattro system (ultra tech) vs. Q3's traditional Quattro..

Nobody who has the budget for a Q5 would buy a Q3 and vice versa. People buy the most expensive car they can afford and few people can/will just jump $10K in price unless they have a ton of money (which if you're looking to buy a Q3 or Q5 you likely don't).

Speed is not high on the list for Q3 drivers, an improvement on the old body style ranks higher. Tech was what the wanted to score #1 on. I understand comparing it to non German brands is tough when it comes to tech for price point. However German buyers historically have always put up with outdated interfaces in exchange for style, build quality and consistency

More junk audi garbage, its easy fir a salesman to sit there telling stories about how great a car is he sells it and never has to deal with it ever again, Audi is junk junk junk...ive spent over 7000 in just parts not labor but parts in my audi q5. The latest junk part to go is my starter. Why on earth Audi would place so much stuff around such a vital part is a mystery then you have to remove your alternator then once the alternators Out you have to somehow get the motor mount out they place one of the top motor mount bolts behind the starter which makes it even more impossible to get to ! If audi is going to sell such a crappy engineered vehicle the least they could do is give it free starters and fuel pumps for life. People love them till its them doing the actual work on them and more and more garages are outright refusing to work on them because they are so poorly engineered. And break down all the time reguardless of how much maintenance you do.
