I found myself using the feather in a lot of my projects and prototypes and breadboards weren't cutting it. So I made this! Check out the Github here: bit.ly/wind_bre...

Great to see you back, with another clever, useful project! I'm right there with ya regarding the Feathers - I use them all the time both for prototypes and "production" projects.

Looks awesome, wish the adafruit stuff was more accessible in the UK as it's quite pricey to get here.

Nice idea, layout & implementation. Wondered if you could include a BMS system for charging the 18650 such that once put together you could charge it with out having to disturb the set up by needing to remove the 18650 for charging. Thanks for sharing!
@SeanHodgins
@SeanHodgins 5 жыл бұрын
You can charge via the usb port on the feather, if you want to make an access port in the housing.

@@SeanHodgins Thank you. I had missed that the feather will charge a battery at 100 mA, but it is there on the adafruit site and also allows hot swapping which is convenient.

very nice. would be cool to sell this as a kit and make a little bit of profit. also, I don't think you want that temperature sensor directly in the sun, but I couldn't tell if you were joking or not. thanks for sharing this!

The entire sensor with esp ist just not practical. You get up to like 10 days before recharging if you go super powersaving

Nice board, any reason you didn't add a power switch?
@SeanHodgins
@SeanHodgins 5 жыл бұрын
There is place for a power switch component that controls the enable pin on the feather. I may make some changes to the board to allow JST connectors so that you can plug in a remote switch as well.

Cool setup Sean. You went past it pretty quickly in the video, but I'm curious if you have a special soldering iron tip for putting in the threaded inserts. Or is it just a standard tip?
@SeanHodgins
@SeanHodgins 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I made some custom tips in a recent video, but at this time I was just using the standard hakko chisel tip.

Cool project, Curious if you thought about. A way to vertically mount the smaller boards? So you can run more than one of the smaller sensors. But cool none the less.

@SeanHodgins

They connect through traces on the PCB to a couple of the IO pins on the feather.

would be way nicer if it had a master swithch for cutting the power from the battery tho it's a cool little board. very nice.

The on board switch to the enable pin should be good enough for any application. Almost no current draw.
@andraznovak6735

@@SeanHodgins Yeah that's true. I was actually more concerned about the other things that you plug into the power (sensors, displays, actuators,...). But I didn't consider that most of them don't consume any power when not being used and 18650 is plenty even if those components use some power.

Love this! I have a request, I've never had a PCB made. Been guessing what files I need to feed to PCBway. Maybe you can add to the GitHUB README? Tx for the work!
@SeanHodgins

I have been thinking of making a more detailed video about making your first PCB from start to soldering. Let me see what I can come up with. As for PCBWay, I will try and add some instructions on the Github. But basically you open the project in KiCad, and you export a set of Gerber files.
