My teacher is British and he's from Stafford, and he intentionally changed his accent to an RP in order for us to understand. I'm here to see how he spoke in his youth.

I watched your video on TwFP, and upon listening to you speak, I thought, "Huh, he sounds like he is from the West Midlands." What a strange coincidence! Cheers! :)

I've studied English and Spanish linguistics for a long time, and with that knowledge of pronunciation and the ancestry that shaped the dialects, I can usually pinpoint the differences in the UK and in my home country (U.S.A). Whenever Americans say, "I love the British accent," I always ask, "Which one? There are over thirty!"

Staffordshire accents aren't highlighted the way that, say, a Bristol or Scouser accent is, so it's nice to have this sampling. My father's from Stoke, but he's lived in the States and worked abroad so much he believes it's been watered down by American and international -isms. The main difference I notice in your accent vs his maybe the "oi" vs "aye" sound to a long "I" sound. He probably hears BBC Been a while since I've seen my paternal side of the family and I wasn't as aware of regional dialects and accents last I was there to see them, so I appreciate the record for my amateur sociolinguistic interests. But I'm yammering now. Thanks for sharing!
