I actually like the way she specifically categorized it as " Yoruba accent". Many people especially here in America don't know there are many different accents not only in Nigeria but within a region or even a state. Good job for pointing that out mum.

Daughter's pronunciation sounds like "worter or warter! And not water. Mum's pronunciation sounds like watah or wotar" Mum's pronunciation of most of the words are more correct than that of the daughter in my opinion. Bad pronunciation leads to bad spellings and we see this time and time again in English and Americans peoples spellings. They are very bad with spellings. They spell the same way they pronounces words.

This brought me back to my childhood. I was in a summer program when I was about 9 where one of the activities was an African drum class. I always thought it was hilarious when he would get mad at the class and say “you cheel-DREN do nut LISS-ten”. I never laughed to his face because he didn’t play but I still remember him to this day. Actually the reading in nigerian accent makes a lot more sense because its more solid and you dont have to worry over the same letter being pronounced different without any given reason. Best example Banana! Why should the same "a" be pronounced different then rather the same, everytime? Its the same "A" as before!
