I'm 68. Learned traditional. I am right handed. Started playing again. Due to injury/cervical spinal stenosis I am switching to traditional grip in my R hand, "matched" grip in my left hand. These accent studies will be very helpful for me. And as others have said - thank you for making your knowledge available to others!

Hello good sir! I just want to say how much I truly appreciate your no-nonsense, non-flashy studio and non-cool chop approach to teaching. The only other person I've seen take this approach is Mr. Gordy Knudsen. I really wish I was in a position to pay for lessons from you, but I hope these words of gratitude and appreciation mean something as you've made a big difference in this drummer's journey. Cheers!

Hi Maestro Rick!!.. I'm from Buenos Aires ( Argentina), i'd love your dedication to speak so clearly about each musical development ( sound, technique, dynamics, tunning, etc.) Thanks for all that. I'd like to buy your books, but the shipping from US to here is so expensive, so, are you selling it on pdf format?... Thanks again and greetings from here!.

Hi Rick! Thanks a lot for your great videos! One question regarding this one: I had the chance To study with Claus Hessler (in case you know him) and he taught me to use a so called „pull out stroke“ to accent the second note of a double , whereas you are using a „finger clinch“. There’s probably no right or wrong, but what made you make the decision to use the finger clinch? For me personally it doesn’t give me as much power on a backbeat as a pull out stroke as used in Moeller technique... Thanks again and Best regards from Germany! Pebbo

Hi Pebbo You should use the technique that works for you as long as it sounds good. If you can play fast, even doubles at all dynamics and it sounds good then it is good. There are multiple ways to do things and if they sound good they are right. That does not mean it will be easy to teach though. The way I do it is very easy to teach so thats also a requirement for me. Some folks play with a very individualized technique that's pretty strange and they sound great but they are unable to teach it because its so unique.
