Why did they put the Deaf guy on the bottom? When he signs and the interpreter talks, the captions cover up Nyle's hands. They could've put the hearing lady on the bottom, since she is not signing.

yes exactly as someone who doesn’t really understand Asl only a little bit im hard hearing but use sign language im not from USA and yes i kind of wished they putted caption for people from the different side of the world aswell

Maybe there not enough spend to put him on the top and hearing people don't need they're attraction to sign.
@robertaricciardi64393 жыл бұрын
1. He's not "the Deaf guy." His name is Nyle DiMarco, and you can see that in the title of the video itself. If you use close captioning, then you don't need to see his signing. To those complaining about lack of subtitles, there are. You just have to toggle it on at the lower right of the video. It defaults off. I think they should've stated that at the beginning of the video but the CC is pretty visible.

How ironic that this video isn’t fully accessible video for Deaf viewers. What a shame that it cuts away from some of Nyle’s answers with no subtitles to show what he is saying. 🤷🏻♀️

there’s an interpreter, and if there deaf they most likely know sign....and i’m deaf so i say i think is completely accessible
@rosieq.87134 жыл бұрын
Amber Brown I somewhat agree with you, but in reality there are deaf individuals that still don’t know how to sign or are just learning. Not everyone is lucky to learn as a child, because a school may be to far away from their home.There’s also deaf individuals whom aren’t American and don’t know ASL. I can’t speak for every deaf individuals because everyone is different in how they see themselves as deaf individuals. So subtitles are really important in very video but especially when it involves someone whom happens to be deaf and is trying to talk about a new project that involves the deaf community. I hope I didn’t come out as crazy lol I hope you have a wonderful day! 🙂
@jeremy20154 жыл бұрын
@@ERBfitness No, I get that, but it’s the part where the video cuts away from Nyle and the interpreter that aren’t accessible. The parts where it shows you clips from the show have no subtitles or interpreter on screen. It’s poor deaf awareness.

Por que poner un video justo cuando estaba respondiendo? me perdí gran parte de la respuesta de Nyle. si querían poner material para oyentes (obviamente era para oyentes) hubieran puesto en chiquito a un lado, sin tapar a nyle. Why put a video right when he was answering? I missed much of Nyle's answer. if they wanted to put material for hearing (obviously it was for them) they would have put little one aside, without covering nyle

Why is the interpreter being shown at all? Confuses hearing viewers who is speaking (which is Nyle) and causes them to not look at Nyle when he's speaking.
@dayjune7734 жыл бұрын
I think it's so deaf people can access interpretation of the hearing speaker.
@mmills89894 жыл бұрын
I agree that some hearing viewers may be confused by this and look at the wrong person. That is always an issue with hearing people who are unfamiliar with the use of interpreters. I think name labels such as Nyle: Producer, [name]: Interpreter, etc. would have been helpful. I think the bigger issue is the lack of captions and cutting away during answers and questions so that the signing isn't visible. I think having the interpreter present not only can help normalize people using interpreters and show how that process works, but also provides just that much more access (although this video has quite a few issues as far as accessibility, as I mentioned) for those who maybe can't comprehend written English (if there were captions) as well as they might comprehend the same content when it is signed. Even if there were captions, it's important to remember that those captions are still in English, which is not the first language of many Deaf folks (bc ASL ≠ English on the hands, it is its own language that cannot be represented by captions).
@inanothercastle73504 жыл бұрын
oh agreed! Better layout, captions, and lose the cutaways would make huge leaps and bounds for accessibility!

So much more thought should have gone into making this video accessible, especially given the content being discussed, but it seems like absolutely no thought was given in that regard. There are no real captions on the video and they often cut away from the interview to show different shots, making even the parts that are signed inaccessible. This isn't acceptable @Access . You can't make a video where your channel will profit off of discussing a Deaf creator's content whilst also ignoring the needs of the larger Deaf and HoH community. Giving a platform to Deaf voices is great, but giving no consideration to the accessibility of the content in editing or posting (i.e. captions) is just another example of the audism Nyle and so many other Deaf activists continuously fight against.
