I used to dislike Donald Trump a few years ago because of the media, which made me believe he was racist. However, after seeing my own country and others struggle with issues related to illegal immigration, I began to understand why Trump took the actions he did. People need to realize that every country must prioritize what is best for itself. Running a country is not a simple strategy. I don’t harbor any hard feelings, even though I know my chances of getting a U.S. visa are virtually zero. I respect the concept, and sometimes people need to accept when they are not welcome. That’s life, and it’s reality. I don’t hate Trump-in fact, I realize he might be working against my personal interests as a simple African citizen who dreams of living in the land of opportunity. But I respect his approach because he’s not the president of my country. America needs to stay great, and if it becomes too easy to access, it loses what makes it special. I get it.
