We don't know what happened to the man, maybe a stroke, collapse, who knows. If his condition got worse, everyone would say why didn't you call for help. Ambulances and rescue are there to get you to a hospital as soon as possible before the condition becomes worse. It is good for the medical teams also, it is training.

I don't believe he had an arm injury because the EMT or doctor didn't even examine him. They grabbed his arm for support since he didn't seem to well. Doesn't exactly look like you could just send an ambulance there...

This particular place on the vid is called Tjødnane, and is about 1 hour walk from the Preikestolen base-camp, car-park and access-road. One probable hypothesis here, is an emergency call for some heart-attack-like early symptoms. In this case, you REALLY need to totally stop any effort, and immediatly call an emergency service - do NOT wait or try getting to hospital by yourself. If they considere you need help, they will send an ambulance or doctor to you, to first: provide immediate help on place if needed (with adequate onboard material and competent people), second pick you back to hospital for further checkups. Modern health-emergency strategy, now, is no more based on the "geting the patient fast to hospital" but a better idea : "getting the hospital fast to the patient". At least this is the current policy in most european countries, like here in Norway. That's why there is cars, helicopters and even motorbikes ambulances for fast and early assistance, bringing medics and material fastly. And of course it cost more money, and not all countries can afford such a system.

The extreme heat caused the helicopter blades to malfunction, so that they only went at about 1 revolution per second. The resulting crash was inevitable. RIP
@altonbradley7172 жыл бұрын
What are you referring to? I didn't see any crash. Extreme heat doesn't affect rotor blades one bit, especially on this particular aircraft. It looks like an Airbus EC145: I have several thousand hours in this type and it's one of the most dependable helicopters in the world. Preikestolen is in Norway, and this chunk of rock is only about 1200 M in elevation, so I doubt if it ever gets very hot there.
@altonbradley7172 жыл бұрын
One other thing: it looks like the blades are moving slowly because the frame rate of the video recorder and the actual blade RPM are close to the same. In some instances, I have seen video where it looks as if the blades don't move at all, which looks really weird.

Since I have no idea what happened or what the local medical control policy is, I will reserve any judgments. I did this work for 20 years, and not once was a patient of mine able to walk to the aircraft, so this is very unusual for me to see. Maybe the guy was having chest pain and the nearest EMS unit was hours away. Something like that would make sense. It is a true blessing to live in a country that can provide such a service.

@altonbradley7172 жыл бұрын
Nobody was shooting at them either. I rode medevac for 20 years and you just don't get in a big hurry in a critical phase of flight, such as landing. The terrain was very uneven, as you could see the pilot had to re-position the aircraft, and then it was still leaning about 2 degrees. That's why he kept it running- both to keep the CG from moving around and also to pick it up quickly if something like a big gust of wind suddenly came in. Also, this may have been the first time this particular pilot had landed there, and you could see the crew open their doors to look outside for other obstacles. Now let's do it again, but at night, in the rain: that separates the men from the boys!!
