This project is very unusual. It's the first time I've seen someone do it this way and I love how it's turning out. Bravo! :)

Good to see you! I'm almost done with my first metalworking project, a straight razor! Maybe one day I'll be making a lathe too, but I kind of doubt it. I'll at least own one!

Thank you Brian. I'd like to see your project, if you post a video of it let me know.

Ok i ended up buying an old-scrap 6' Lathe machine, so my goal is to attach A back plate for my Chuck, and Most importantly Headstock alignment and bed ways scraping... Looking forward for your next video 😁👍

really enjoy this series so far, I will definitely keep some of your techniques in the back of my head. However, I would suggest to put some oil grooves along your slides. They don't have to be precise or anything, just some grooves in the shape of Zs along the guide surfaces, can even put them in with a dremel or similar. They help retaining and distributing the oil.

Late comment but this is when i saw this video. I see a lot of those square ways for mill tabes or lathe and i don’t know how you will be able to adjust z axis play. On a dovetaill system the gib controls the z axis play too but on this one just x and y. If someone could explain it would be much apreciated. Thanks

I just found your channel an hour ago and I am afraid I won't go to bed tonight :D Such a great content - I love the way you describe your trials and learning from errors. Bt the way you mention in one of your videos that your project is taking long and there are other videos of DIY lathes out there - could you refer me to any? I was actually searching for something exactly like this - a diy benchtop lathe with proper ways and spindle - and all I found is your project :) Anyway, impressive work to say the least. I am excited for your progress.

Well I've seen people making their DIY lathe from every corner of the world through YT, though, at the moment I don't have any link handy, sorry. Thanks for your kind comment. I am just uploading next video about the headstock alignment that will be online tomorrow. Cheers from the Alps. Claudio.

good work. maybe I don't know how to use the correct term in your language, but I'll try: Did you not grind the guide bars with a grinding wheel? did you just use sandpaper? maybe it explained and it went unnoticed. if so, sorry!

No grinding wheel, just scraping. Follow the full series and in particular the video where I revisited the Whitworth method. Cheers.

Sorry, while I somewhat understand it, my spoken Spanish is quite poor ...waaay poorer than English :)
