What are the best songs on the N64? With so many games and genres of music available on the platform, that question is daunting to answer. The N64 lived through a period of rapid evolution in video game music, as synth technology came into its own. Though historically comprised of cheerful melodic loops, video game music now had the ability to explore the scale, create unprecedented depth, and use a wide variety of sounds. Because of this added variability it's easy to see why there is little consensus on what N64 music stands above the rest. That's why we're here.
We tackled this question with the goal of minimizing our own personal bias. As two guys who grew up with an N64 we knew there would be songs that would be influenced by nostalgia. To reduce this, each of us listened separately to as much N64 music as we could get our ears on, and giving a score of 1 to 10 to each song. Then we compared our scores, taking the average of both, which gave us an initial ranking. And then the real work began - debates and more debates over song order, and song inclusion. It took us a full year to complete this process.
The resulting ranking is what you see before you; the fruit of our labors. All that's left now is for you to sit back and enjoy the music.

TheXeeman Essentially it's an automated system developed by KZbin. It searches its database for audio copyright abuse, and creates a lot of false positives as a result. However, representatives of Nintendo WERE involved to some degree, as they had to select in the affirmative that some abuse was taking place. The thing is - we AREN'T abusing fair use under copyright law. It was this whole thing, video gets taken down by KZbin, we get a strike against our account, and Nintendo could have actually sued us. But, they didn't, so the video is back up! Nintendo is actually pretty bad about stuff like this - they attack let's play accounts and demand a share of ad revenue.

Yeah, there are multiple things wrong with this soundtrack. Sure, they take into account how "GOOD" music sounds, but don't think about the context of it. I.E. Star Wars for the most part sounded like crap compared to Jet Force Gemini because most of the Star Wars games were made before the memory upgrade for the console. No other systems were able to use dolby surround at the time the N64 first came out. I don't think it's fair for games that have legendary songs from John Williams should be graded lower because of the current tech at the time. Of course games that come out at the end of the console will sound, play and look better. It happens w/ all consoles. I also think that JFG and a few others took spots from other good songs due to nostalgia. Which sucks. This is why I just listen to like 3 hours of console music in youtube and not top X lists.

Long story but when I was little my fam had parental controls for the PC before it turned off I turned this video on just to listen to the soundtracks I would stay up all night to hear rainbow road but it took so long to get to #20 that I would fall asleep. As we played the music we were able to tell where we were in the video by the order of songs. We since then don't play this video at night that was 6 years ago. I thought I would come by to pay it a visit. This video also inspired me to make a hits of favorite songs and the first few came from this video. So I found some new songs by this video. Thank you for uploading this as this was a big part of my childhood.

Nostalgic content is what I live for. I absolutely love Smash, Diddy Kong's Racing, Mario Kart, Mario 64, and Zelda's soundtracks the most! I do think you're number one choice was a good contender for the top 10 best songs, but I still believe that Dire Dire Docks deserved the title of best N64 song of all time. Regardless, thanks for putting such a video out. It makes me feel like a kid all over again!

it was the year 2002 when i turned 7 years old a guy sent me my first video game console (n64) a gamer was born everything was new and came with Jet Force Gemini that game i never finished it but i could finish zelda ocarina of time conker bad fur day and others many good games that has that wonderful console I think they were the best years of my life growing up and being an adult is not so good

This is fantastic. I've been through a lot of Nintendo soundtrack/mixes on KZbin but this is pretty amazing for a variety of reasons. I love how you explain why the music is good and what is special about it. That gives me more appreciation and it helps me to look for certain things within the music. I also like some of the history and tidbits that come up during play. A lot of these games I have never personally played and some of that information is great to have. Most people just stick together a playlist and call it a day, but not you guys! Thanks!

Oh lord I just found this channel by watching their FF song list..... Here goes another hour of my life watching the video and then reading comments complaining that more of their favorite games, songs, game-songs weren't included or that they don't agree with the placement of certain songs but reluctantly accepting the top 2-3 songs since they are probably the most iconic. EDIT:By the way, Jet Force OST is amazing for its era. I played all N64 games back in 1997-2002. And JFG was the pinnacle of music quality on the console. No doubt about it.
