Good morning Kam coach. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this powerful information together. Question: I just graduated 🎓 as a Mechanical engineer, I enjoy solving problems and dealing with people. I applied for an account manager hydraulic company and I am sure that I am going to get the position. What should I do for the first 90 days in the job? Thank you so much for everything in my life and family. 🙏🏾

🙌 So true Michelle. I've been in that place where you didn't want to disappoint your client so rather than say "no" you say maybe - and try to cover up the realities of what's happening. That's no good for anyone! No don't get me wrong, there are ways and then there are WAYS to tell the truth - if things aren't meeting expectations you can find a way to frame the conversation that's sensitive to the situation but also aligned with reality! Thanks for watching and I appreciate you taking a moment to share your thoughts!

Warwick, you nailed it with this video. I plan to share this with those I mentor. I couldn't agree more with being honest. Without honesty and credibility you won't be that customers AM very long. I often tell AMs that we're in the customer service business. We want our customer to be comfortable in doing business with us and the company they represent. It's all about the Feels. At the end of the day if you treat someone fairly and with respect they'll usually do the same for you.

Thanks, Warwick Brown for this good video. I think the credibility of Accounts Manager becomes the most critical element in the entire scenario, maybe at the cost of some sales as well. By any chance, if your client comes to know that you have foregone your sales for the sake of looking after his business, rest assured lifetime relationship and business is guaranteed. So, sometimes short term gain has to be lost for a long term relationship.
@kamcoach

Warwick, Thank you for your video it was very insightful. Currently I work for a company that is very loosely defined and we don't have a specific person fulfilling the role of account manager. In fact the CEO and his son personally manage the relationship with our customer. My goal is to convince my boss to look for an account manager. If you were in my shoes what would you tell the CEO are the main advantages to having an Account Manager are? Thank you!
@kamcoach
@kamcoach 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kohl. I have a lot of thoughts on this. It can be really hard for an owner/operator to let go of the relationships - often that's one of the critical factors in how they built the company and it can be hard for them to entrust those to anyone else. Let's grab a call and discuss - I'd be happy to help you build your business case for an account manager to lead the relationships but also to differentiate the contribution the CEO and his son can make as executive sponsors to the relationships (you still want them involved, less day-to-day and more strategically). You can book time with me at amtips.bookafy.com

Thanks Josh. So true. I wish more employers would appreciate that industry/technical knowledge can be learned much faster but that soft skills like leadership etc take much longer to develop and add real value to key account management roles. When I look at core competencies in job ads, industry experience is usually one of dozens of requirements, yet seems to be the biggest one preventing candidates from securing interviews. @kamcoach

Fundamentally the roles are the same - both are focused on retaining customers, penetrating and expanding accounts and growing revenue. However key accounts are your companies most important clients with the greatest long term revenue and partnership opportunities. Because of that they are very resource intensive and require a lot more time, attention and effort to manage and make those opportunities a reality. That's why key account managers (should) have less clients to look after. I hope that helps!

Usually they are also so important that you want to, most of the times, FLY to their location to meet them in person and basically pamper the relationship on a 360 degrees perspective. Since they're the most important asset of revenue for your company, they are not treated the same way you'd treat your normal (less profitable) accounts.

One thing I'd would say on how to be a great account manager is to ask your customers for help in serving them Example: you need a service by tomorrow don't inform us a day before. It would help one another to reach out a head of time Let me know what you all think

That's great advice Anthony. I'm a big fan of helping your clients help themselves and sometimes that means you have to help them get out of their own way. Educating/reminding them on ways to be more effective is a great place to start. Thanks for sharing (and happy new year!)

I dispute that a person without charisma can suddenly be charismatic
@kamcoach

I guess it depends on your definition of "charisma?" I agree it's not like flicking a switch, but you can take a single step today towards owning your charisma. The Charisma Myth has an interesting take on the subject amzn.to/3BFGz5p

Fake it till you make it when it comes to happiness is kinda walking on a thin line. I wouldn't personally trust my boss if he said thing like this to me.
@kamcoach
@kamcoach 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Zela, I was talking about fake it till you make it in the context of confidence, not happiness. I'm a big believer in manifestation and the idea of believe it you'll see it. Many, many times I've had to force myself to do things that were against my nature. For example, I had to host clients at events and dinners and I was incredibly shy. I had panic attacks just at the thought. But I had to do it. Sometimes I'd think to myself, "What would one of my favourite characters on TV do in this situation?". Maybe "face your fears" is more appropriate than "fake it till you make it?"

Can being too honest be bad?, I’ve been told by many of my friends that I can be too honest sometimes, but they say that’s why they value my advice.
@kamcoach
@kamcoach 5 жыл бұрын
Not at all. I think honesty is a wonderful quality and too many times people will tell they're customers what they WANT to hear instead of what they NEED to know. A point of view is what makes you an expert! Just choose the when, where and how you share your opinions and think about the consequences for you and the other person. It's all about how you frame your message in a way that highlights how much better things would be if they followed your advice, and how you can help them get there. Stay true to your instincts Jean!

I think that we can always be honest as long as we have suggestions. People fear honesty the most because when we question if we should be honest is because we need to deliver bad news. However, as long as we have options for our customers, they will feel special and that you care enough to suggest other things.

Totally agree with you. Honesty and intent go hand-in-hand. If you share your advice constructively you can have a positive impact.

What I was trying to get across is to be confident in your abilities and that you have a point of view and expertise that can make an impact - even if you don't know it or believe it yet - a lot of people (myself included) - doubt their abilities, suffer from imposter syndrome, low-self esteem or low confidence. These are all lies you tell yourself - so YES, "fake it till you make it" - a cliche sure, but what I meant was to believe in yourself - even if you have doubts. Maybe not the most eloquent way of putting it - but hopefully you found something of value in the video. If there's something you were looking for that I didn't answer, let me know and I'd be happy to point you in the right direction or create some content.

When the time is right to move, you'll know. In the meantime, I hope things improve.
