If you get the Time Tony, a part two with dampening info would be excellent to watch… I must say I’m dumb as a stick when it comes to electronics but I do greatly enjoy watching your videos and I do learn something each and every time.

The devil is in the details, you’re correct in pointing out how well made that amplifier was put together. Glad to see it was on your bench and got the respect it deserves. I vote for part two schematic / dampening video. Great video, thanks Tony!

I'm in the midst of restore/aligning a T-101. Didn't see any vids on this unit. All new caps, relay, shielded wire for audio, output jack upgrade. Accuphase was out of my price range in the 80's......but still holds value today !

Another great and informative Vid. I own an Accuphase E202 and the matching T101 Tuner. Both have been fully restored in 2019 (partially restored 15 years ago with some leaky transistors and reflowing some of the boards). I am the original owner of the E202. They are classic pieces. Sound phenomenal today and for many years to come!

Excellent restoration. Accuphase is known for quality and pricey equipment, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. They entered the market later than Marantz, Sony, Pioneer, etc., starting business in 1972.

Notice the PCB mounted ceramic disc caps have little plastic stand offs for strain relief, remarkable build quality throughout, the layout is well designed for heat management and excellent quality components. Such a well designed amplifier will run reliably for a very long time, thanks for the video, Tony.

I agree, a really peace of art. It comes from a time that they were SO close of perfecting reproduced sound, that they really didn't look at spendings any more to get there. Tony I asked it before: when having a variac, why do you never set the mains at the proper voltage before you set the bias for the main amp ? Almost all is unregulated, so there's a linear relation. I must say that I don't know if the bias comes from a regulated supply in this one, but most of the time it does not.

I have an E-202 and the matching tuner. I purchased them off EBay about 7 years ago and had them shipped to the Accuphase depot in California to be tuned up. I was surprised that Accuphase still supported them. They sound great. I also bought an Accuphase P-300 amp and the matching preamp. Both need repair.

accuphase and revox are really nice to work on. all of them. 70..80s marantz, technics, pioneer etc. are the worst, cables going all over the place, have to take apart everything to get to certain sections. they had no idea what they are doing but all of them have one in common, they messed up soldering badly. i never had anything from that era without cracked solder joints.

@danhorton61823 ай бұрын
I know this video is six days old and you likely will not see this Tony, but those gray film capacitors they used throughout this are known to be very poor quality. They are used throughout the Marantz gear as well and they are known for failing pretty often. I restore a lot of Marantz gear, I’d say at least 20 pieces a year get full all out restorations. Whenever I see those gray flat film capacitors they are always removed and replaced with whatever you want, generally I’ll use Wima. Also, I hope you change out many of those transistors. I saw many of the C1451/1452 and A809/810 transistors that you left in and they an extremely well known as problematic. And yes, I would’ve 100% replaced those tantalums. Being as old as they are it, it’s very likely they will end in failure as they are growing tin whiskers internally.

Tony I remember when a lot of companies in the US sent off there electronics to Japan, US folks hated losing there jobs in the assembly of the boards here. But I have to say the Japan is more precise and conscious about what they build and assemble. In comparison to products made in China. Today things built in Japan is no longer cost effective like China. Now with the new US government in 2025 and beyond will cost US consumers at least 25% higher in the current products being bought, since most of these products are NOT made in the US. Sad. I would have to say your price for repair on these beautiful equipment will cost more.
@nicodenhaak39613 ай бұрын
Tantalum capacitors ALWAYS go bad at this age now, i'm sorry. False assumption. You might want to revisit that eq board Tony. I didn't have one single tantalum cap that was remotely in spec in every repair where i encountered them in the last 5 years. Leaky and lost capacitance... Cheers from the Netherlands.
