Awesome video as usual! Glad you found this one. The Polyend Tracker is my favorite DAW. I sold my MPC Live after getting one of these. I would add that you can pair just about any other gear with this thing as well. You can control synths with it and record them while playing. Hook a Keystep up to it and assign slices to each key and you can also record velocity from the keystep. But what I like about it the most is that it is pretty hard to get lost in the menus. It keeps you focused on the task at hand which is assigning samples and making music. And if you spend a couple hours with this, you will pretty much figure it out. Other things I like about it is that you can easily run it from a power brick, it is small light and thin, doesn't get hot after hours of use, easy to update the firmware, easy to sample, you can record unquantized, and can play NES games. Not to mention the $599 price tag makes it the most affordable standalone DAW on the market.

It's cool seeing a modern tracker like this and the Dirtywave M8. I first started electronic music with LSDJ on a Gameboy, so trackers have a special space in my heart. Great video! Thanks for covering so much info on it.

I bought this thing on a whim and it became my main machine almost immediately. Its so fun, intuitive and easy to learn, but very powerul and versatile as well. I cant think of any style of electronic or sample based music that it isnt fit for. And the newest firmware update has addressed many of the bugs that people complained about. I really love this machine

I have the Polyend and the Dirtywave M8, and they’re both amazing. I make hip-hop with them and I think the Polyend Tracker is great for that because of its awesome sampling abilities. The M8 is getting close! And they both have vibrant communities and active developers behind them.

Cool to see you doing this! I associate trackers more with techno, because of the crazy breakbeak chopping you can do and the per step functions seem to be more useful for glitchy stuff. Just try and chop an amen on it, so fun! I used trackers a ton in the 90s and keep getting tempted to grab one of these when I see people do videos. The MPC has been my main unit for many years, but I keep an eye out for a used one haha.

I just got a Tracker myself, and I'm really surprised by how much fun it actually is. I was not really excited by tracker software back when it was "the big thing" (I am that old), and I really wasn't all that interested over the past couple of years, until I (for some unknown reason) caught a video about the Polyend Tracker Mini and got a look at the sampling capabilities. I'm not too keen about the Mini or the M8, but the more I looked, the more I like the layout of the Tracker. And. There. Was. A. Sale.

There are in fact other normal Effects like Compressor, Chorus and even timestrething on the Polyend Tracker, not in Song or Pattern mode, but in the built in audio editor you can render them and youse the effected sample.

I got me a Pete Canon Polyend. I considered the Teenage Engineering OP-1, but it was absurdly expensive. I was tempted due to the built-in FM radio; that was a feature I wanted since I was a kid with a Casio SK-5. But I wouldn't pay $1200 only for that. I overlooked the Polyend... until it came out with that gorgeous Amiga design. Chef kiss. Half the price and more features.

I was thinking about selling my 404 mk2 and getting the tracker plus. It seems you can get more done with it , much less confusing to work with and you aren't limited to the styles of music you can make with it. What do you think?

Such a bizarre little instrument. It turns the (traditionally incredibly steep) tracker learning curve into something actually approachable through good interface design and documentation. I bought Renoise in 2010, and I feel like I've gotten further along in the polyend in the last five days than i have in renoise over the last 12 years.

Should i buy a Polyend tracker as a beginner? I want to make a Boombap Ep. Is it right for that?
@dopedrums2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you really should.It's easier to get things up and running on this machine over any DAW or any MPC. It's really good for boom bap (that's what I do on it). The workflow is super quick and easy too. You can even mimic the sound of old MPCs somewhat on this thing thanks to the bit crusher and mono sampling. I recommend checking out "kidbunka" on KZbin and peep his "Jamuary" videos, they're fire. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5bOYqZtfKyphdE kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIq3ZZlsnMR7lZo

Trackers are so fast in comparison to the traditional sequencers. Really love them but I do feel this one is kinda limited considering even 486 was able to push out 32 stereo channels.

@rorz9992 жыл бұрын
I do wish it wasn't mono (aside from panning), but 8 tracks is plenty if you use a tracker like a tracker is 'supposed' to be used, e.g. different samples/instruments on different steps of the same tracks
@pirateradioFPV2 жыл бұрын
@@rorz999 Well, I use Renoise pretty much daily and I can get drums done with 4 channels but it's not pretty and the sound becomes congested as one sample cuts another. For synths just a chord will take 3 channels on this device, in renoise all the notes of a sample take just one track. So you end up doing TON of resampling of the chords on this device, which can get really laborious. I'd rather Novation with 4 similar tracks but two synths with 6 voice poly. Or even electribe 🤔 But most of all MPC one, it's only 200 more and actually does everything. And I'm a tracker fan boy to the core 😅
@Sektor8262 жыл бұрын
@@pirateradioFPV extremely well said, this is my main problem with the tracker and i’ve owned it for nearly a whole year now. I love it to death but i do find myself either having to export selection a lot or just arrange everything in a DAW

Gotta be honest, this looks completely unintuitive and not fun to use. Scrolling down an excel sheet is not exactly what comes to mind when thinking of engaging music-making. But then again, I totally missed out on the tracker scene back then so who am I to judge?

Thanks!

Appearances are deceptive, because it's exactly the opposite! in reality it's very easy , intuitive and fast to use, and i'm saying this as a person who never used trackers before, and started whole beat making thing on Fruity Loops/FL Studio. So now, imagine that these 'excel' sheets are just normal grid, that can be changed for horizontal view (in config options) and those strange letters and numbers are just regular bar steps. When making a pattern u really dont have to put any attention what are they saying because you can: - quickly select any instrument/sample from library and put it manually on a grid or live record your steps (as on any other gear) or automate with fills eg. kicks or hats (that super easy and fast)
@rorz9992 жыл бұрын
As the other guy said, it's the opposite - it's the most intuitive piece of gear I've ever used! It's also tons of fun, especially the 'fill' function and performance mode
