When I went to visit him in Canada last year I wasn't aware he was gay. It was only once I stepped through his front door when I was greeted by his 8 boyfriends. (Some of them shirtless) Half of them had names which rhymed, like Eddy, Freddy & Teddy. I must admit at first I was a little bit shocked, as I was not expecting company and quite frankly It's exhausting to be in a 2 bedroom apartment with so many people.. but I did find beauty in the sense of community they shared. One of them was called Paul and he kept talking to me about how he grew up in a family of skateboarders. He kept insisting on teaching me how to do a kick-flip and when he finally convinced me, I was shocked to discover he couldn't really pull one off. He would make me sit there for hours as he kept failing one flip after another. Constantly muttering "this one's gonna be it" after another failed attempt. Kinda unrelated to the video, but it made me think of this.
