Skyler Woodward vs Joshua Filler from late in the 2023 Derby City Classic One Pocket Championship.
This was round eleven and neither player had a buyback. The event was down to six players.
While not known for his one pocket game, Joshua “The Killer” Filler is known for making making balls from anywhere. He is a World 9-Ball and US Open 9-Ball Champion, and has represented Team Europe five times at the Mosconi Cup.
Skyler Woodward is known for his 9-ball and one pocket (and banks, etc) games. He is an eight time Mosconi Cup Team USA member.
This was one race to three, with alternating breaks, to determine who would move on to round twelve in the event.
Bill Incardona and his special guest Nick Varner called all of the action.

I'm surprised in the second rack Skyler shot the nine rather than skimming the ten and putting the cue ball on the rail, but he probably saw something I missed, no doubt.

Josh Filler had Skyler by the proverbial ..., just snoozed to squeeze. Heck of a match. Thanks for making this available, and for the 2 great commentators. I still chuckle, remembering little Nick Varner in the 80's getting a coffee at the Rusty's 24 hrs Billiards counter, in his customary Parka, and an inebriated non regular and clueless patron, trying to hustle Varner to gamble.

Yeah on 9 ft I see Skyler play and it's not always that impressive. I mean..a lot of the guys, myself..play pretty good. But when I see him play on bar table, literally getting out from nowhere and everywhere. And then playing 1 pocket like this.. That's when I can see a gap in our skill level. It really shows in my mind. I love playing one pocket. And I think Skyler does have an edge over Josh in the moving game. Safteys and strategy. Altho Josh's kicking game is pretty strong. That's what gets me about Jayson Shaw, he kicks almost as good as he shoots straight at it. I mean his ability to kick safe is disgusting lol. Wow. But Skyler plays a strong well rounded,high level game. And ofcourse when any of these guys are on they're all world beaters. Capable of taking down any tournament. Anywhere. I haven't hit a ball since covid. I really miss it. I've almost got some land payed off. Then I'll build a garage apartment with a big game room. Put a 9fter in and get the guys over to play some. I like the old Brunswick 9 foot tables. Beautiful. Maybe we get get some streams going who knows

Billy Incardona was a US champion 9 baller in the 70s and Nick Varner was the man to beat for a period in the 80s. Filler and Woodward have benefitted from the people who played before them, like all competitors.
