same but with kay, lang, knight and simeon (lang shi long nation rise up!!) at first i disliked her, but the more you get to know her, i really started to love her as a character. she works so well with edgeworth and i think without her the game would have felt really dull. like, with phoenix and maya it was always that two peas in a pot dynamic, which was fun to play but made maya a bit superfluous at times. meanwhile kay's comic relief really shines since most characters except gumshoe are rather serious. and that's why it hits so much harder when you see her struggle too. i love her so much

Honestly Callisto Yew was a great addition to the story. I found her hilarious but also so intimidating because of how unremorseful she is. I still REALLY wish she was the main villain rather than Alba because I think that would have helped this game’s reputation because there is a reason why Turnabout Reminiscence is considered the best case in this game.

I generally agree that the characters are among the strongest aspects of Ace Attorney, and that's one major reason why I rather like this game. Besides that, though, I think the single strongest aspect of Ace Attorney is that of catharsis- You're an underdog taking down villains that believe themselves to be invincible, and it feels SO good to wipe the smug grins off their faces. And that's why AAI has a top tier main antagonist that deserves absolutely none of the hate he gets. It baffles me that people point towards him using "extraterritorial rights" to brush off your questioning as a criticism of the game. That's the exact thing that makes him awesome, the law is 100% behind him and taking him down requires more effort than any other villain in the series. I was having a blast with that last section of the game, and especially so after AA4's main antagonist barely put up a fight.

Completely agree about Alba. The whole point of AAI1's two arcs and how they interwove was this idea that there were people who were somehow beyond the law, and this was why Alba was such a slog: because you were in an uphill battle. He was able to straight up confess to murder, be explicitly linked to the Smuggling Ring and still be completely untouchable due to his two layers of extraterritoriality. Yes, it feels unfair and a slog, because it's meant to. Plus, I don't even find it to be that much of a slog, they still do a decent job with pacing the final confrontation to make sure it's broken up enough.

I recall not liking AAI1 when it was originally released. I went into it with the expectations that I would finally got to see a more indepth look to Edgeworth and Gumshoe's working dynamic. So when Kay was introduced, I remember being very put off. I don't think I had a problem with pacing, I just recall feeling the solutions being too simple and so I wasn't engaged. The whole "reveal" of she who should've been the main villain completely blindsided me. I replayed AAI1 back in March for the first time since that first playthrough, and I can say I didn't give it a fair chance. Kay and Lang grew on me, and it really does lay the groundwork for AAI2 to be the masterpiece it is. I think the decision to release the two as a collection to be the best move (despite my grief over losing AAI2's fanlation names). The two games really need to be taken together as a cohesive whole to fully enjoy both. Playing one right after the other immediately drivex that home.

Absolutely agree on the pacing. It's pretty great (barring the last case) and I genuinely don't get what people are on about with that complaint. Then again, the only people I've ever personally met who claim Investigations is a bad game are people who've never played it and saw some guy call it a bad game on KZbin, I guess, which....(GROAN) Also, the trio of Edgeworth, Gumshoe and Kay have some of the best chemistry in the entire series. I love em so much! ^_^

I highly recommend seeing the JP stageplay of the Ace Attorney. Yes, the trio are doing their hijinks. Every character is there! Almost every reoccurring one... The plays are more of a small romp but still there if you want more dialogue between certain characters. They were an amazing troupe. I appreciate the fansubs made for those Turnabouts. So be aware of the names being the original names.

Yes the investigation stage play is great especially for the character interactions. Fun fact the plot of the investigations stage play is based on a scrapped case for aai2 that was gonna be in aai2 but was removed because the game was already so big and the final case was split into case 4 and 5 and elements of the scrapped case were incorporated into case 5 of aai2. It was then used for the plot of the stage play with the aai2 connections removed and changed but the stage play even had involvement with the director and producer of aai2. I like that they got to use the idea of the scrapped case even in a different format.

I don't think that kay only being introduced in case 3 is a problem. It's easy to forget this but while maya fey is introduced in case 2 of aa1 she's the *defendant*. She spends most of that case behind bars or channeling mia. She doesn't really blossom into what we know maya fey to be until case 3, and gets less cases than kay in that game to really shine, since she only gets cases 3 and 4. I think the reason this criticism is a lot more common for kay than it is for maya is that people tend to view the original trilogy as a whole, while due to the lack of an aai2 localization until very recently, people viewed aai1 in isolation. I feel like lang could have been easily written to have a small appearance in case 2? but i also think they get to give both kay and lang a much more bombastic introduction by introducing them in case 3. to be honest those two characters' introductions are probably my favorite part of case 3 overall because otherwise its a very weak case. Good video! While its not my favorite game in the franchise aai1 is still one I hold pretty close to my heart, and i feel people are very unfair to it. I blame Jello.

You really summed up my own thoughts with the whole part starting around 14:04. It's the character dynamics that make the Investigations games great. It's the same reason why I'm actually really fond of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. The dynamic between Apollo and Trucy in that game is golden and it easily distracts from any plot flaws. Edgeworth and Kay's dynamic is by far my favorite in the franchise, and Investigations 1 deserves a lot of credit for establishing that dynamic. Honestly the most significant thing that makes Investigations 2 better than 1 for me isn't the plot, it's the inclusion of even more great characters to the first game's cast (though of course none can surpass the greatest fictional character ever created, Kay Faraday). As for the pacing criticism, my theory is that a lot of people have been predisposed to expect poor pacing based on what they've heard from reviews or KZbin videos or whatever. I myself actually agreed with the pacing criticism prior to playing the Investigations games for the first time via the collection, however my opinion has entirely reversed after actually playing it. I really do think that point of criticism is entirely unfounded. I don't know where that idea originated, but I imagine most people heard it from someone else first, rather than coming to that conclusion fully independently. If your goal is to look for evidence of poor pacing then of course you'll find something to support that belief. However, I don't think most people would come to such a strong conclusion about the pacing if they just played the game without any preconceived notions.

I hardcore hated Kay when I was 1st introduced to her, because she replaced Gumshoe as the aid and I really like ordering around Gumshoe. However that feeling went away in Turnabout ablaze and she grew on me further in the sequel. As for Calisto Yew/Shi-na, yeah, she really should have been the final boss instead of Alba. Like, I really thought that Yew formed the Yatagerasou vigilante group with Burne and Badd in reaction for Manny getting away with Cece's murder, but that she betrayed the group, because she felt that the group didn't make a dent in the ring and so killed Burne and sent assassins after Badd to close to Alba in order for her to than later kill him and desolve the ring. I mean, there were hints that The Amano group were in dissaray and were having a falling out with the smuggling ring and Manny tried to hijack Alba's position as leader of the ring by becoming ambasador. It would have been really cool if Yew DID cause choas and friction within the ring, resulting several members ending up dead or being exposed and arrested, culminating in Yew instigating and helping Alba in killing Manny only for her to than kill him, thus resulting in the ring becoming so unstable that it can't function any more and desolves. BUT NOPE, that's not waht we got in the end.

honestly my issues with the pacing was a personal thing when I was playing where I felt it actually ran fast at times. I like it when things take longer and give us more time with the characters of individual cases I dunno...i felt I had multiple moments where I felt something popped up randomly but edgeworth had figured it out already when I didn't. (i have a skill issue when it comes to edgeworth brain it seems) I love the main cast of this game and felt I got plenty of time with them for the most part but I really really really care about the characters on the side unique to their individual cases. But that actually requires giving them time that they deserve but don't usually get (honestly this is mostly in kidnapped) the only part of the game that really runs slow is alba's stuff but that was honestly so hillarious that I can't stay mad at how long it goes on for. "We've got you now!" "Nuh uh" "HOLD IT!" *random stuff* "we got you now" "nuh uh" "HOLD IT" *random stuff* and repeat is so funny This all being said I still think investigations is a really solid game I just have problems with a chunk of its side character utilization until like the last two cases and yes kay is so good

I watched your classic sonic video and realized you were an investigations fan but this is everything I wanted! I played Investigations 1 and had a blast and loved the characters but not as many people seemed to have that opinion. I really had fun with every case. Case 1 and 2 were really fun mysteries and I loved Rhoda, case 3 may be the weakest case in the game but it was still a good and fun case to play, case 4 is great and I’m glad at least that is consensus, and case 5 is a really underrated final case all because of a certain tree man. I agree that it makes sense that Kay and Lang appear in case 3 and their stories are fleshed out. Although I do appreciate aai2 for having Kay from the beginning and having Lang appear for the final case as a good way of building on the first game. I honestly think the overarching story of aai is underrated with the way plot points are introduced in each case and then connected together in case 3 and 4 going into the final case ready to solve the mystery. I also think without the devs playing with the overarching story in aai we wouldn’t have gotten the amazing overarching story in aai2 Even though I didn’t mind the Alba section too much, I hate it for the fact that it has ruined discussion of the final case and the game as a whole. It’s all people talk about when discussing the final case of aai and it feels like the complaints of the pacing are people taking the Alba testimony and applying it to the rest of the game. The final case of aai has a lot of good moments and it’s sad to see it get overshadowed by the alba section. I had a similar feeling of confusion when people complained about the pacing as it felt like they were talking about a different game because I feel like the investigations games are very fast paced. Even though I disagreed when people like my friend said the game was forgettable but at least it felt like a reasonable opinion someone could have but the pacing complaints just didn’t make sense. I loved aai2 when playing it and do think it’s better than the first game but part of the reason I love it is because it builds and improves upon the first game and continues its story in big and small ways like the connection between the smuggling ring and the illegal auction in aai2-4. People praise the game and turnabout for the ages in the same breath as 3-5 and GAA2-5 but it feels like it isn’t talked as much as a conclusion to the investigation games as those two cases even though it does a great job of building on the first game and it’s characters and it feels like it’s cause people want to praise aai2 in spite of aai not because of it and it’s foundation. That’s why I hope with the release of the collection people will get to experience these two games as a series and appreciate the way the sequel builds on the first game, especially since people no longer have to remind those playing aai to play aai2 cause you had to go out of your way to play it. I love these games and its characters and it’s a shame even when praising aai2, it’s at the expense of aai because I love both games. This video conveyed so many thoughts that I have had about aai and I love that we can share our passion for this series.

Notes after watching the video: 1: While this game is weaker than roughly half of the series for me, I do believe the character foundations and set ups allow this and AAi2 to become my 2nd favorite of the ace attorney trilogies/duologies. In fact, this duology is still within my top 10 games of all time, only 4 spots lower than what I consider to be my favorite work of Ace Attorney, being The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. 2: The first 2/3rds of Ablaze is so outstanding that despite how mediocre Alba is, I can honestly forgive the case and have it as an Outstanding case, even if it’s weaker than most of the other finales. 3: What makes Alba feel so long is the fact that you don’t really feel like you’re making any progress within the 2 hours you cross examine him. 4: If Ablaze removed its 3rd portion, and replaced Oldbag and Larry with better characters (Lotta and I dunno Ron DeLite maybe?), I’d genuinely consider it to be an S+ case. 5: AAi1 is awesome.

I have a rather unique complaint about this game. It's more of a subconscious thing, really, and it doesn't contribute to how I feel about the game as a whole, more about how it affected my first experience and how it continues to affect my memory of the game... The game is almost completely desaturated in color. Like... a LOT. Edgeworth's office and the courtroom are both entirely sepia tones, which is to be expected, and then you get a reprieve with the plane, which doesn't have any problem with this until the cargo hold where it's expectedly a pretty dull gray. And then you've got the amusement park, which should be a very bright and colorful place, but the majority of the investigation takes place in either the Wild West area or the empty stage, both of which are brown on top of brown, and most of the remaining investigation takes place in the storage rooms, which are dark and dingy, and even when you get to case 5, the offices of Manny Coachen and Quercus Alba are utterly devoid of color (which makes sense, one of them was burned, but still). Even the victims, the most color you see from them is Byrne, and that's just because of his slightly blue scarf. It makes them blend together, at least for me. Like, if you asked me who Case 2's victim was, I would probably need a solid minute to think before I answer. Or even remember what he looked like. It was probably something brown. You could argue it gives the game a more serious impression, but I would personally say it gives it a more dull impression, especially on a first-time playthrough, which is unfortunate, because I do still like this game. I think it's a great game! Sure, it's my least favorite game in the franchise, but when ranking things you like, something has to take last place. Color theory just works against it I feel.

During my Collection replay, I kept noticing a thematic through-line all through the cases of AAI1, and what really made the smuggling ring plotline click for me. Specifically, the running theme about how some assholes will end lives, destroy friendships and relationships, and rip apart families, or even entire countries, for no reason other than their own pettiness or greed. That's the main thing connecting all the culprits in this game. Portsman, Cammy, both of the Amanos, Yew/Shih-na, Coachen, all the way up to Alba; their top priority, above all else, is to preserve their own place in the hierarchy of Rich/Influential Bastards, and they don't care about who or what they have to destroy in the process. It's both realistic and extremely relevant; the circumstances leading to the KG-8 Incident(s) and Byrne Faraday's murder are essentially corporate ghouls ordering hits on whistleblowers. And Miles Edgeworth, of all people, would know what it's like to lose a loved one to an egotistical asshole who can't stand to have their corrupt bullshit exposed!!! And speaking of Miles; while the game can't directly address that because of the ridiculous "no spoiling the prior games" nonsense, it does show in how he consistently goes out of his way to comfort and empathize with grieving survivors. And not just Kay, either! He took the time to make sure that Lauren knew that her dad loved her and had never stopped looking out for her. And he sincerely tries to be kind to Calisto after he finds out she's (supposedly) lost a family member, even after she's done nothing but make fun of him. Miles' character development is on full display even in AAI1; and I want to give a special shout-out to the conversation in 1-5 where he says, point-blank, "that no one should've conceived of the notion to 'convict all defendants' in the first place." It's such a satisfying, full-throated rejection of the toxic Von Karma ideology that it almost feels like something that *Gregory* had said at some point in the past. But yeah, I really do enjoy this game~

Prior to watching the video, here are my thoughts on AAi1: 1: Kay Faraday is peak 2: the cases in ranking goes as follows: 5 (S-) > 4 (A) > 2 (B) > 3 (C) > 1 (C). 3: AAi1 is a B (Good) game, and is higher than AA1, JFA, and AJ for me. 4: the gameplay of AAi1 makes up for the average quality of its cases, and playing as Edgeworth and having Kay lets the game be better than AA1 (which is right behind it in B Tier). 5: AAi1 sets up a lot of Miles’s character arc that will reach a climax during AAi2. 6: Calisto Yew is phenomenal, and playing as Edgeworth is awesome.

0:10 Never heard that. At most I heard it was poorly paced. JFA got more hate than it. I think it's a perfectly competent game and the characters are incredible. It's not T&T but I adore it. Taken on the whole of non-niche VN it's masterful. 3:37 Presto, Guardians of the Law, The Truth Isn't Sweet, Kay's Theme, Let Me Laugh At The Cool... everything but Great Revival is masterful indeed. I adore it. 4:08 Hot take but Kay Faraday is the second best assistant in the franchise. After rewatching the original AA1 Maya lost a lot of points for me, but she's arguably still the best. I will say that Franziska got destroyed in her first 2 cases due to the terrible no spoiler writing policy Capcom imposed after T&T lowering the amout of continuoty that could be shown. 4:21 Badd and Yew are incredible. The Force are great minor characters. Teneiro is a social deduction magnet. Collias Palaeno is as good a character as Maggey Byrde and Dr. Gray combined and a great twist ally. All awesome. 12:25 Shih-na is damn close to beating out Matt Engarde and is probably better than The Phantom. I prefer Godot but she's outstanding. 16:22 I may change my mind later but this game and it's sequel are superior to all games but T&T and not by a long shot. Honestly every game in this franchise but the first one and Layton could be in the top 3 depending on hour taste. They are masterworks

I'm one of the people that thinks this game is kinda mediocre, but I can't really say I share the same complaints as the rest of the community. The pacing and cast are great, and i enjoyed the subplots. Ironically, as a big Edgeworth fan, I think playing as him causes a bunch of problems. He solves the cases too easily, especially with how much the logic system holds your hands, and no-one feels like a match for him except the final boss. And because it's Edgeworth, it would feel *wrong* if he were outwitted too much. So the game really lacks the tension and big turnabout moments that Ace Attorney typically has, feels undercooked the whole way through. On that note, I think the final boss was GREAT. Not as quirky or spicy as other antagonists, but they're confident to the point of arrogance, and put Edgeworth's arguments down with a chilling ease. Their slippery nature and out-of-nowhere appearance fits the smuggling ring, and the degree of persistence and untouchability is perfect for a game where you play on the prosecuting side. The smuggling ring is definitely a subplot where you have to infer details and imagine the lengths they've dragged the police through, but I liked it. I think you hit the nail on the head with other complaints. The game suffers from being the first of its series, and so there's the slow trickle of characters and mechanics. Compare it to AA1 and the writing is so much better. Honestly, I still don't get why people dislike the Kidnapped Turnabout.

It truly is about the characters and all their little moments as you say. To be honest, I'm confused about how people aren't more receptive to this even when the mystery itself isn't too special. Everything Edgeworth, Kay and Lang (mainly) go through is critical to their characters in AAI2 and serves incredible payoff when you spend so much time getting to know them, just like The Great Ace Attorney can't work without being a duology either, and imo to a very similar effect. I wonder if people just get caught up in the fan service? Oh yeah we get to see Edgeworth and Ema and all... But rarely do people talk about appreciating all the time spent with the original characters and how important their roles with Edgeworth are, even more so than returning ones lots of the time. To be honest I feel like that's why we ended up with Dual Destinies being successful thanks to Phoenix and Spirit of Justice thanks to Maya/Apollo, it's like the games need to anchor that fan service somehow and it just makes me disappointed in how they focus more on building plots that just show you characters, rather than move them forward. Also yeah idk what game they were playing if Airlines is tedious lol.

I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!! I'm one of investigations 1's biggest defenders because I played it on my 3ds back as a semi new ace attorney fan and I had the biggest blast despite its obvious faults. I definitely agree that original characters are this game's strength and I love all the character designs in the game as well as listen to the soundtrack frequently on walks. I think turnabout ablaze really is overhated because of mr extraterritorial rights tree man and that makes me SAD because I love all other aspects of the case. I agree with the general public in that the yagatarasu plotline is stronger and more interesting than the smuggling ring and because its so well done and engaging really I think its a shame its treated as accessory to it. Like, I think its almost limiting the yagatarasu's purpose to just be taking down the smuggling ring when its more interesting for all the characters involved especially Badd if its for working outside the law to stop corruption in general. I do think Yew/Shi-na is the best villian ever and I'm sure aai would catch less flack if she was the climax/main villain. aai1-4 is my favorite case in the ace attorney franchise although that might change when I finally finish aai2 (I'm sorry for my sins I didnt know how to use an emulator and now I dont have a job to buy the collection). well, just as one last aside there is one man we can blame for 99% of the bad criticism of aai and I'm pretty sure you probably know who that is. I wish his bad taste would stop haunting the fandom.

Personally, while investegations 1 is the weakest game in the series for me, I never thought it was outright bad, for me it's like a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 because it does have things I genuinlly enjoy, the gameplay itself obviously, and the main characters such as Edgeworth and Kay which I also really enjoyed their dynamic, if it wasn't for these 2 the game would have been way less interesting, heck these 2 are the reason I don't totally despise I1-3, it's still my least favorite case in the series but thanks to them it wasn't unbearable. I just like every other game in the series more.

As someone whose very first AA games ever played was this Collection, I found them to be pretty fantastic overall. Although AA2 is definitely the stronger game in terms of theme, I still think AA1 was pretty good with the "Yatagarasu/smuggling ring" plotlines serving as the binding thread bringing everything together. Plus, I don't think AA2 hits as good as it does without playing AA1 first.

Thoughts as I watched along: Yes!! You pointed out the parallels between the Lang method and the von Karma method!! I noticed them almost immediately when I first played AAI1 and that made me like Lang as a character almost right away! Thank you for the praise on the first case! I am definitely a Portsman defender so I appreciated it I think people's issues with the pacing comes in part from what you're actually doing in the cases. The final case especially ends with a confrontation that feels like it's supposed to end several times over. A case just as long wouldn't be as much of an issue if it were handled differently. (Also I feel like I have seen complaints on the length of 6-5 lol) Seconding all the "Shih-na is awesome" comments! And this brings me to pointing out that another criticism I see leveraged against AAI1 is that there isn't much personal investment to the overarching plot on behalf of Edgeworth and/or the main cast. Like you said, the smuggling ring is a pretty major part of the plot, probably the main plot out of the two, and Edgeworth has no real stakes in it. It isn't as much of a personal story as the greatest games in the franchise. I'm not as passionate about the AAI1 cast as you are, but now I want to share my personal favorite part of the game, which is how each case leads into one another. The jumbled timeline of the game is part of the critiques I've seen leveraged against it, but I think it makes the flow of the whole game feel so much more like one whole compared to pretty much any other Ace Attorney game I've played. I don't see many people bring this up, but it certainly left a bit of an impression on me. Thank you for the video!

Awesome video!! I’m such a huge fan of the Investigations series and while AAI1 is not my favorite overall, I can’t deny that I had so much fun playing it! It’s got undeniable charm. People are valid for criticizing it, but at the same time some people can take it too far and don’t just enjoy the silliness and characters for what it is

Overall I kinda agree, but Investigations 1 is my least favorite game in the whole franchise, keyword least favorite. Still it's a bit overheated, and you said it yourself, Investigation 1 walked so Prosecutor's Gambit could run

I never thought that aai was so divisive! I loved it so much, i didn’t even play the fan translation of the second one bc i wanted to learn its mother tongue to enjoy it as is. Ofc now that a lot more ppl have been able to play it, many agree aai2 is amazing, but as someone who only had the first aai to go off of that’s what i judged it on 😭 i imagine there must have been ppl who didn’t go out of their way to try to play the fan translation of aai2 based on how they felt negatively about the first aai.

sorry if this comment is confusing I’ve just been dying to talk about ace attorney investigations which someone other than my friend I absolutely hate the mixel edges in the pixel sprites with all my being but on the case of the actual game aai is definitely one of the games I like more, mostly because I played it more recently (cause I haven’t p,ayes the original trilogy since the start of this year lmao) the kidnapped turnabout is one of my favourite case in aai because Kay and lang were introduced in that case (which are one of my fav characters) tho the culprit was not as interesting as the jay or lang also here’s a weird detail I noticed, Kay scarf is the only clothing that has a highlight (apart from the obvious like leather and rubber which Kay’s scarf is neither) also there is definitely a parallel between the yatagarasu trio and the corrupted trio (which is what I’m calling Fifi, excelsius, and the body doubles’s trio) since the cg if those trio are similar to each other

I really like that they drew comparison between the two trios as it’s something most people wouldn’t think of but they are similar with both trios being involved in a major incident that is connected to the final case and final culprit. Even the reveal of the trios are similar with the image showing the first two members with the third member being showed in the image after they are revealed as the final member of their respective trio.

I actually thoroughly enjoy this game… outside of the final boss lasting for three thousand years. Kay, Lang, Badd, Tiny Franziska - they’re all amazing. Having a whole game with Gumshoe and EdgyBoy trading quips back and forth, I love that. Out of ten AA Games, I’ll put this at about a seven.

To me, Investigations 1 is probably one of if not the most replayed game in the series for me. It's a comfortable game I can just pick up and play throughout. You're just Miles Edgeworth getting sucked into case after case in the world of Ace Attorney, and in many ways that's what I can appreciate the game for as is. Whilst I would agree on the fact Investigations 2 is the more engaging game, in hindsight it's very much like the two Great Ace Attorney games, in that the first really sets the scene for the latter. Ultimately the best part of Investigations 1 is character interaction hands down. It's so fun just talking to everyone and examining evidence/scenes and just seeing the cast play off each other really well. That still carries over into the second game, but the stakes felt a lot higher there and other factors for it to stand out as much.

The issue is that the smuggling ring is hard to picture the entire conspiracy and the mechanisms and how is it really afecting the cast or someone. Is the conflict moving the plot but you only get most of it at the last chapter on the first game.

I remember playing AAI for the first time recently and wondering 'wait, why are people down on this?' Now, it still might be my least favourite, but I don't get why people disliked it (aside for one point which I will bring up in a moment) Especially as it makes AAI2 better, even more so if you play them back to back. I do feel that Yew/Shih-Na was a better pick for final villain than Alba, but honestly I think that was down to execution. I still enjoy facing down the tree-man, but I feel he needed a bit of a rewrite to make him more interesting. (A more personal connection for example)

i really enjoyed the game a lot. it was one of the first games in AA that had an overarching story connecting ALL the cases in the game, it had so many loveable and great characters and great pacing. while aai2 certainly improved on previous issues of the spin off series, aai was a really great game and i was so stoked to see a lot of characters from the first game also appear in the second one. imho it is also a great improvement from the og series in terms of pacing and storytelling (except the latter part of the last case but yeah). while there are some parts that should be criticized (i wouldve liked it more if shih na was the main antagonist) it doesnt deserve that much hate, its one of my favorite games in the series >:|

I know a lot of people might disagree with me but I actually find Alba to be an interesting villain because how much his actions affect the first game and I know some people might think it's annoying that It was so difficult to defeat Alba because of his extraterritorial rights but I actually think it makes him a great villain because it just shows how much of a powerful figure he is and it also explains how he was able to get away with his crimes for so long and it just makes it even more satisfying once you actually defeat him.

totally get loving this game, but I personally still can't. It's mostly due to how this game lacks really any character arc for anyone, as moments where a character develops to be a better person is discarded for making a bigger and bigger dramatic moment. Turnabout Ablaze feels insanely emblematic of this, with the characters who get some emotional ties into the story, don't actually get to anything with their character to develop, ex. Kay just basically going "yeah ok" to her plot relevant point, and Lang not developing with his hatred of prosecutors and rather saying he knew it all along. This lack of character arcs is easily my biggest flaw with the game, and is the sin that makes the game awful for me, especially when every other game develops character arcs that are amazing, especially the sequel to this game (i love sebastian). The characters themselves are fun, but their plot relevance and arcs are insanely shallow or nonexistent. great video though, we love to see someone loving what they love

What are you talking about, turnabout ablaze is awesome and i like tree man, even if he appears outta nowhere, but if you think about it, it makes sense he's the leader of the smuggling ring ( 1 of the main plot of the game ) and i like he's 2 hour testimony hence he's the final culprit. Don't get me wrong i like the yatagarasu plot aswell if not even more but you can't tell me the smuggling ring plot is trash. Ofc that is only my opinion.

i agree with a ton of the points in this video and still have a soft spot for aai1 but still rank it around the middle or lower end of the entire series for me. and a lot of that is honestly just. i did Not care about the smuggling ring plot whatsoever i do agree that it wouldve been way better if the yatagarasu plotline was given more of a focus than the smuggling ring one was. that and i just honestly really didn't like aai1-3 despite it introducing two of my favorite characters in the series, the entire case just felt Annoying

honestly i think the way the formula works makes the pacing way better than the mainline games, since the confrontations can be spread out instead of happening all at once, and a lot more of the solving takes place during the actual investigations. wish i talked about that more in the video.

AAI1 is not a bad game, but it's definitely the weakest out of all AA games, mainly because it got more weaker cases than other AA games & 1 of its case is in top 3 worst case in AA history which is The Kidnapped Turnabout... Bad story & bad characters that related to the case..... Turnabout Ablaze i think is the most overhated due to how frustrating it is to take down the final big bad despite realistically it really is hard to take down someone who's an ambassador who cannot be touched by law...

i'd be fine with her if it weren't for the bit where she swoons over edgeworth when he's clearly uncomfortable with it. i saw someone on twitter say once they think oldbag would be better if instead of crushing on edgeworth she treated him like her grandchild or smth and i think that'd be significantly funnier and still retain the general feel of the bit (her being a cranky old lady except when it comes to edgeworth) without it being genuinely uncomfortable to read. too little too late though so yeah they just need to drop her 😭

1. Yeah dudette youre obviously just kay-pilled. 2. i am one of the AAI1 haters. Although I wonder if impressions would have been different if AA12 would have been officially localised in a timely manner. I was also an early monolingual English speaking fan of The Great Ace Attorney, but admit it was made a stronger package by releasing both games officially at once. TGAA1 has many of the same issues, very important characters like Barok arent introduced until Case 3 either. I do think AAI2 did benefit from learning from AAI1's critics, in the end. 3. All of the above is coming from an Apollo Justice (AA4) lover and fan btw. I dont agree with you, but respect your opinion in the spirit of being unpopular take buddies.
