The reveal about Pierce tampering with Sorin's notebook truly is horrifying. For Sorin, who is unable to retain any memories past the day he lost his sister to an accident he caused, that notebook was a lifeline. A way to move forward through life, even if his mind could create any new memories. But now he knows it was tampered with. We can assume Pierce probably tampered with it as far as he needed to in order make this whole murder plot work, but that would be little comfort to Sorin. Because he can no longer trust his notebook, the tool he had been using since the accident as a substitute for forming new memories. How utterly horrible, to see a book which seems to be written in entirely your own handwriting, and now not being able to truly trust ANYTHING written in it. Because any of it could have been tampered with by an outside party, for their own goals. Also, I like how the reveal about Sorin's amnesia makes you look at earlier scenes with him in this case in a new light. Several times that he seemed unusually absentminded (when Phoenix was shocked Sorin didn't recognize him as Ellen's lawyer)? Sorin genuinely DIDN'T recognize him. And there are several points where he flips through his notebook for a bit before answering whatever was asked of him. We now know that's him going back to the events he had written so he can see what his past self thought/did. And his whole panicked flipping through notebook animation is him frantically reading through his entries, trying to figure out if he might have missed a detail he wrote. It's real fun!

The truth about Sorin’s condition, his anterograde amnesia, is so sad. It’s not just that he’s unable to make new memories, either. Imagine waking up every morning, and the last thing you remember is losing someone you loved. Not just that, but contrary to what we believed, he was the one who caused the fatal car accident. Every time he wakes up, he feels guilty over being responsible for his sister’s death…

What if 50 First Dates was a heartfelt drama instead of a comedy? That's basically Sorin's plight. Luckily, he doesn't have to start from scratch with his beloved, but still, it's really sad to think about the amount of precious moments he & Ellen spent together that he would inevitably forget. And that's not even mentioning how every time he wakes up, his sister's death just happened yesterday in his mind. Poor guy needs a hug. ...Speaking of 50 First Dates, it is frighteningly easy to imagine Adam Sandler as Larry Butz

I could never imagine the struggle a person with anterograde amnesia has to go through. From that perspective, you go to bed tonight, wake up, and it’s several weeks/months/years in the future, with only supplementary material to tell you what you forgot. It’s what makes Sorin’s earlier words to Ellen so impactful; _“I’m… lost without you.”_ Right before he said that, Sorin asked Ellen for the location of some blueprints. Obviously, Sorin can’t write *everything* in that book of his. _Some_ important information is gonna slip through the cracks. And that’s where Ellen & *The Power of Love* comes in! Don’t forget to show your badge to everyone, and check their profiles often.

I have minor memory issues (due to an injury as a child), and yeah, I would never wish what Sorrin (and real people with severe anterograde) has onto anybody. I still remember bits and pieces, so the idea that you don't have even that is horrifying, especially if you never get used to it
@nickmathur59504 ай бұрын
17:10 A lot of other LPers suspected when they got to this part that it was brain damage from the accident that contributed to Sorin’s memory disorder, but when you consider that it actually came from the shock of losing his sister, it’s SO much sadder. Because it shows how important his sister was to him. Also, remember, Sorin’s injuries couldn’t have been as critical as his sister’s if he survived and she didn’t.
@blazingamer27064 ай бұрын
This will be said a lot, but Sorin’s condition is known as Anterograde amnesia. It is a trauma induced condition that prevents a person’s ability to retain new memories. Unfortunately, there isn’t a known cure or therapy that relieve a person of their memory loss. One of the ways to slightly alleviate their situation is to do what Sorin has done, keep a notebook. It is extremely difficult to imagine how hard it can be for someone to live with this. How frustrating it can be to fall in love, but to forget that love every morning and having to constantly remind yourself that your love for this person is in you. This is Sorin’s reality.
@nickmathur59504 ай бұрын
23:28 Think about this too, it’s pretty clear at this point how much these two love each other, which means for that to remain the case from day to day, Sorin probably has a huge description of Ellen, such as her characteristics and everything he loves about her, written in his notebook. And he probably looks at it every day to remind himself of his love for her. You gotta really hand it to Sorin for moving forward, despite this disorder; stepping up into a huge role in his family’s company, getting married… I feel like a lot of people in these situations wouldn’t be mentally or emotionally ready for big leaps like that.

45:10 Now that Pierce is under fire, and also knowing what we know now about Sorin’s memories, something from earlier may make a bit more sense. Pierce told us that Sorin ordered him to orchestrate a second reception to make it look like Ellen’s crime never happened. But when we confronted Sorin about it, he didn’t seem to know what we were talking about. So it’s possible that either Sorin didn’t write down why the reception was held twice, or Pierce tampered with THAT part of the notebook as well by tearing out the page. Or, it’s possible that Pierce wasn’t acting under Sorin’s orders at all, and came up with and orchestrated the second reception by HIMSELF in order to buy time while he tried to get rid of the body of the victim he had just killed, or something like that. And he knew that if it wasn’t written down in Sorin’s notebook, Sorin would just take it as fact if he was confronted about it. He was trying to cover up his OWN crime.

I kind of like that at the end of this episode, Phoenix acknowledges that we dont have any reason outside of sus actions to assume that Nichody is the murderer. We lack proof, and thats a big deal. The reason why i think that is kind of cool is the fact that it is rather often in cases where the whole point is to get the one person to the stand that DID do it, and thus be the suspect, but were effectively circumventing that idea because, while we the players basically know at this point he is the only person who could of done it, that the people in the games are actually acknowledging it. Also, the fact is that this has happened so often that both Phoenix and Edgeworth have to acknowledge this possibility.
