Say what you will about Assault Horizon's mediocre gameplay, clichéd story, and bullshit DFM. The soundtrack, however, is epic. Keiki Kobyashi is a musical genius, and one of the few things Namco/Bandai did right with this game.

Don't get me wrong, I do like AH. I just have issues with DFM running me into the ground and/or buildings. I also kind of take issue to the fact that Russia is in a joint task force with NATO, something that would never happen in real life. But, all in all, AH is a great game, and it still is one of the best fighter sim game out there. It IS Ace Combat, after all.

It definitely make the combat much more intense and visceral, and in the campaign/free mission DFM isn't to bad. But, in multiplayer, the ability to effectively counter-maneuver drops drastically. It got so bad that my friends and I had to stop flying against each other until Ace Infinity comes out. All in all, DFM is an interesting mechanic, and I wouldn't mind seeing it return, but there are a lot of bugs that need to be ironed out first.

When I was told I couldn't finish school in the year I had all 9 of my classes to finish up, I went through my own inner war battling procrastination to finish all 9. When I say I'm gonna do something. I fucking mean it. Procrastinator or not. And when I'm training for the Marines, this will be flaring in my head. Compared with previous titles, AH was just horrendous. But if you look at it as its own thing, there are some good things coming from the experiment. The best of them: aircraft customization. Can't say much about the engine, though. It looks good, but I stil think AC6's engine was more pretty. I also hated how the game depicted the russian armed forces as incompetent idiots and how it depicted the Raptor as a god-tier plane.

+psychocrysis2 Yeah, in terms of gameplay Blaze does all the hard work. But then so did Cipher and Col Bishop. In the lore all the Razgriz callsigns compliment each others abilities. As did Galm so the squadrons became legendary to both their forces and the enemies. Warwolf never really held the same status with the Russian Air Force. Warwolf 3 and 4 didn't even have names.

IMHO Warwolf's team composition is most like Galm's, with just the main character and the wingman being relevant. Razgriz is a four man legend while Garuda is the most team reliant (All those named pilots that supply ample cover and support). Mobius is the one whose team is actually irrelevant, going as far as to just send him alone out along with a AWACS to deal with a heavily armed rebel base. Warwolf never got the status BECAUSE THE GAME IS TOO FUCKING SHORT JESUS CHRIST IT'S LIKE ONE-FOURTH THE LENGTH OF FIRES OF LIBERATION. Also he didn't dive into a superweapon tunnel run like the others, which is odd.

Ace Combat games have always been about an amazing story complimented by solid gameplay. I hope AC 7 returns the franchise to its roots. Great song. And about the opinion in your description - my own 2 cents on my experience with AH in reply - AH is a highly underrated game. So is DFM. It's a great gameplay feature THAT HAS NO PLACE IN AN ACE COMBAT GAME. Which is why everyone hates it. It's out of place and shouldn't be there. But in another game series? It would have gotten rave reviews by players - even DFM. Hopefully AC7 will be more true to Ace Combat, and we'll get something grand. And hopefully we'll see something like DFM again in another franchise, because it was a damn good idea, if misplaced.
