Ace was tapping in 1975 (it's on 1975 Midnight Special)well before Eruption no way he saw Eddie doing it. Ace has said Eddie was at MSG in 77 in the pit watching his every move...

Ace is the reason I started playing guitar 45 years ago. He is still my hero. He was a great songwriter and his solos were often a song within the song. He played to the song and didn't simply shred something out randomly. Every note planned and duplicated when he played live. I never made a show in the 70's unfortunately. I saw them without makeup twice without Ace and on the first reunion tour with Ace and that was truly amazing. Thanks for the video, I don't believe I've ever watched that particular video. Ace was really on that night.

Eddie combined lots of ideas which morphed or merged into how he plays . Eddie said he saw Jimmy Page play someething which gave him the idea he could tap an additional note & it sounded cool. Cant remember what song he said it was but Im pretty sure it was Page that mainly inspired the tapping, along with Holdsworth & Clapton etc for early inspiration. In 77 While Id LOVE to putt Ace #1 guitar playyer, I think Ted was more skilled on the guitar.

Is it just me or was it a time when musicians were or had more originality?..... It is a very intense song with a tremendous riff.

Actually one of the greatest psychedelic guitarists since Jimi Hendrix passed over half a century ago is probably Ulrich Jon Roth and he was during his time with the early Scorpions from 1968-78’s Tokyo Tapes during their final recording with both him and Michael Schenker in their prime. Obviously the latter’s last album being Lovedrive and then he went solo when the band went all L.A. on him doing blow and hookers era. As far as the Phase shifting goes? Cream was using it and a lot of bands were tapping before Eddie Van Halen like Judas Priest in the mid seventies and don’t be trashing Aerosmith my friend; but if it wasn’t for KISS I wouldn’t have had a career either. Those days are over honestly. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers to ya’ll and all of the things you mentioned I too grew up watching as well. lol Sincerely, DJP Anal Cunt; Postmortem and Kilslug Sony; Earache 🇬🇧 Columbia and TAANG!! I agree other than that lighted Les Paul this one probably has better tone all-day Long...in the 70s only original stuff kiss was some serious bridge makers 80s-$0ldout and got worse and so many are definitely running tracks I've personally seen I kinda get it but it's not right you probably agree but younger won't 😁

Eddie Van Halen was used by Gene Simmons on a demo for Christine Sixteen and Got Love For Sale. Ace just copied Ed's solo for the Love Gun album version of Christine Sixteen. Even if Ace never saw Van Halen play in person Gene would have had to tell Ace about the tapping technique so Ace tried it maybe as far back as 1976 on the Rock And Roll Over tour but probably not until recording the Love Gun album rehearsing or whatever even though he didn't tap on any Kiss studio record except the Dynasty album but just the old Jeff Beck style really where you bend a note then tap once up an octave then release the bend

@TonyFuentesTV Sorry my phone is messed up. The comment was meant for a video of Zac Brown band and Ritchie Sambora doing Wanted Dead or Alive. Ironically I've met Ace through a good friend who was his guitar tech. I was fortunate enough to see Kiss a few times.
