Why simplicity is almost always one of the most beautiful things in art... Complexity is favored a lot among academics but there is something inexplicable in simplicity. Also, jazz education circles always prioritize the importance of harmony way too much, they ignore how beautiful melodies this music has... Melody over harmony in jazz I'd say. It is the main characteristic of a unique style of players after rhythm yet they always try to talk about harmony, I mean come on... Jazz is all about innovation and creativity, it is not based on dogmatic harmonic teachings of academics. Let us remember the one and only Debussy's quote: "...I love music passionately. And because I love it, I try to free it from barren traditions that stifle it. It is a free art gushing forth - an open-air art, as the elements, the wind, the sky, the sea. It must never be shut in and become an academic art."
