I have 24 solid years of experience, and although I am safety conscious, neither me or 99 percent of other people go through such a through inspection. Usually, it's Ok, the forks are attached, there's no puddle of hydraulic fluid on the ground and away you go. I promise you, virtually everyone who have a checklist to fill out with a forklift they drive everyday goes check, check, check etc. This is a very good instructional video and he did cover all safety aspects you need to watch out for.

Interesting to see the different rules and guides for fork lifts in different countries. Over here in the UK we're instructed to never apply any tilt while the pallet is still in the racking. That would be an instant fail. Tilt can only be applied once the pallet is at ground level. I have my test tomorrow, so im going through different videos to brush up on my revision

No one noticed the far left pedal that looks like a clutch but is never used in this video, as far as I could see? I wonder what it's for. EDIT: Ok, I just found the answer on another video. They call it an "inching brake". It disengages the transmission so you can use the gas pedal to raise/lower the lift faster without having to switch the gear to neutral. So, almost like a clutch because they're both used to disengage transmission but on a normal car you also use it to change between gears. On a forklift I guess you only have forward, reverse and neutral so there's no need for a proper manual clutch. I'm also assuming it has an automatic gear shifting system to prevent excessive wear on the transmission.
