Very helpful video! After a fill up my Magnum is showing 5/8's of a tank. I believe the gauge is good as the self test goes up to 3/4's as I've seen others do (hold the trip rest switch, turn vehicle to on but don't start initiates a gauge test.) I see a fuel pump and secondary in my future. It'll take me to much time to do all of that I might as well have 2 new units. I'll be sure to buy some extra orings too. It thinks you have more gas in the tank than it is suppose to, or rather your ECM has detected an incorrect fuel level reading in the tank from the leveling sensor. Who replaced it? I hope they didn't bend that arm on the sensor(s) and were they brand new. Also....When you replaced the two new pumps did you clear out the code and then drive it for a bit, to see if it came back? That's all it may need if you haven't done so. Scanners are cheap nowadays. Try to clear the code and see if it comes back.

@@thechampion9525 I don't know for sure. If it's the exact same pump then it should work. My first thought would be that there was a bad connection. The check valve on a vehicle keeps fuel in the line and up to the engine. When the check valve goes bad it allows fuel to drain from the engine, back into the tank. I had a problem where after the car sat overnight, it would crank for quite a while before it started. This car doesn't have an independent check valve. It's in the sender unit.

It typically goes away within 20 miles. It is possible that you may have to manually clear it, either with an OBD-II device, or by disconnecting the battery with the headlights and key to on for about 30 minutes. After that you'll have to perform a driving cycle. justsmogs.com/2014/01/chrysler-dodge-drive-cycle-procedures-to-complete-obd-readiness-monitors/ It is also possible that the check light is unrelated.

Distractor_Beam Cool, thanks. I have a 2007 Magnum SXT with the 6 cylinder. It has 127,000 miles on it, but I let it sit for almost a year and have to crank on it before she’ll fire. Filled up a tank with 91 and still the same thing, so it’s not aged fuel.
@Distractor_Beam4 жыл бұрын
@@harleyhoracio1 One thing I did was turn the key to the on position (Not start) and wait 5 to 10 seconds. Then, turn it off, and back to on. Wait 5 to 10 seconds, and then start. That would allow the pump to fill up the line to the engine. It would always start right up after that procedure. That might help diagnose your issue.

What's the tool called that you use to take off the top for the fuel pump
So did you just replace the fuel sending unit or did you replace the fuel pump as well? I think you just replaced the sending unit and if so, how did you know that it was just the sending unit and not the pump? Took mine to a shop and they said it was the pump. And can you really blow the car up by not connecting something right. Not talking about smoking while working on it lol
@Distractor_Beam5 жыл бұрын
I only replaced the sending unit. On other cars, a check valve keeps fuel in the line on the way to the motor so it doesn't flow back into the tank. I guessed that that was part of the sending unit. I sometimes exaggerate consequences. I'm the type of person that will get pulled over if I drive 1 mile per hour over the speed limit. In my head I always see the worst possible outcome if I make a mistake.

Distractor_Beam you know Murphy’s Law? Well my dad is a retired Army Colonel. He says to always follow Higdon’s Law. “Well what is that Colonel?” “Murphy was an optimist”.
No crank or no start? Two entirely different problems. Which is it or is it both? A No start condition means it's cranks but will not fire up and run, and thats an issue that is usually fuel related. If it is cranking but not starting, and you changed both fuel pump/sending units, then that means either you got a bad pump(s) (if it they were cheap ones, non-mopar) or the pumps are good but the issue is with either a bad Fuel pump Relay switch or Fuel pump fuse is blown. (both are very inexpensive) A NO CRANK conditions means that you have either an IGNITION issue or a Starter issue. (Check fuses and relays for both) Always check all relays and fuses before anything else. Also use a scanner to see what comes up. They're cheap.

That makes more sense. My first thought is that the unit that was installed is faulty. It's also possible that the float sensor was damaged during install. You can pull it out and see if anything's bent, but you'll probably end up needing to buy another one. There is a small chance that clearing the code with an OBD reader will work. It is likely that it will come back.
