Thanks for posting this. The sound is pretty good on these, everything is clear. I'm a huge Holdsworth fan and although I like what he did with others, I like the interaction he's having here with Anthony and Virgil. They both add something new and different to the music that helps keep these old songs sounding fresh.

Alan tone gets better... incredible His music makes most modern jazz sound so cliched in comparison
@dwightsills87853 жыл бұрын
I agree with your comment about his tone. He was always reaching for something better/different. However, your comment about “modern jazz” is strange.

Some really interesting arrangements, and Allan was pretty exploratory in some pieces (Rome, etc). Is there any chance of an official release of this tour being released someday? It was obviously pro-recorded...

You guys seem a bit more comfortable than that gig in Rome. There's a tightness and familiarity in these performances that lacked in that video. I am betting that the gig in Rome was early on in the tour. Other than the KZbin videos, are there any records of this tour? I'd love to get my "grubby paws" on them if they exist. Cheers!

Only 188 views? Well if that isn't an indicator of the degradation of musical appreciation! Too many people being lulled into a sense of apathy when it comes to the understanding of musical craftsmanship. Too much computer generated, formulaic crap on the airwaves.

I don't understand. It sounds like a real production, but looks like a bunch of lousy audience-cam footage is being used in the edit. Great anyway.

Virgils a monster on the drums, doesn't play this better than wackerman though, not in my opinion
@dynamicalbiz10 жыл бұрын
‘Fred’ is one of my favorite tunes but INHO no trace of the swing that tune has, it sounds so disjointed that is not fun at all with Anthony and Virgil overplaying it. Not even Allan is making justice to it. :(
@colmeleon10 жыл бұрын
So sorry for your disappointment. But who are you that your precious opinion is worth so much? It has a different feel than you are used to apparently. You don't find it to your taste. Oh well. To each his own. Meanwhile "Texas" is superlative. Anthony and Virgil lay down a seamless groove for Allan to stretch out over.
@___xyz___8 жыл бұрын
Hey, be nice, guys. I know that we all appreciate this. Ani _does_ have a point, Fred does lack swing in this live. It sounds very different, but I also think that's pretty cool. Don't forget Allan is seventy this year. Readjusting the music for future generations isn't such a bad idea.
@louispine16 жыл бұрын
You can certainly see Anis' point,it doesn't swing like the Genius Tony Williams original! once you've heard anything Tony Williams,it becomes Gospel! But there is no denying the utter brilliance of Virgil and Anthony,2 of the best ever,and Allan speaks for himself!

L.v.B. is a great piano player, but his music and sound seems very repetitive to me over these many years. I guess if you're a true L.v.B. fan, his compositions must be fantastic. Kinda like loving sex and/or masturbation; you enjoy it every time and forever! *hint* Who am I talking about? L.v.B. never heard A.H. and couldn't even if he were alive today without some cochlear implant. p.s. I'm just having fun, don't take my comment as something meant to hurt anyones feelings. ^^
