ACEDH :THE ORDEAL OF LAND AND ENVIRONMENTAL RIGHTS DEFENDERS IN NORTH KIVU

For several decades now, the situation of land and environmental rights defenders has left much to be desired.
In North Kivu, these civil society actors who are fighting tooth and nail are bludgeoned by their torturers, many of whom are the rich men, some of whom are politicians and army officers.
Despite intimidation and numerous threats, they are not letting their guard down. This is the main concern of the ACEDH NGO, which is focusing all its force not only on defending, but also on raising awareness among the various groups defending land rights.
These defenders, are active on several levels, are still being intimidated by their persecutors. They are arrested and their cases before the courts are not yet settled; some are still in jail, while others have been killed outright.
