Great Video, with a number of good points of each side, I think I would make a similar view but what if there is faction with a similar level of tech & end goals that is not "Evil" like Mr House in New Vegas. Also may I ask what would your next video? I see you have a comment regarding a BoS vs NCR but that has happened (out of game) but may I suggest a East Coat BoS vs Mr House 30 years after the Second Battle of Hover Dam

As a person who's family is dec ended from the original Minutemen, sadly his game did not dog justice and I would pick minutemen. Also the minutemen would have benefitted greatly if there were ex military ghouls around to get them to being effective like pre war united state military. And actually give it a back bone system that makes the united states military. But no ghouls alive in the commonwealth from before the war that was military stepped up, honestly that was Bethesdas lazy lore and charecter writing.

I feel like Bethesda's laziness with the Minutemen really hampered there ability to being the best for the Commonwealth. In my headcanon the Minutemen prevail as the best for Coolmmonwealth because they only exist to help and to better equip the CW's settlements while the BOS are mainly there to deal with the Institute and collect whatever tech they can find. However doing a MM playthrough without mods is frustrating because of the lack of care put into the MM from Bethesda. Logically gaining more settlements would mean more donations which could be equipment, supplies, or manpower. Unfortunately Bethesda didn't do that so instead of gaining that useful stuff the SS only gains extra covers for the artillery and the MM still have the crummy base staring equipment.

Yeah I had an idea of having the Minutemen grow as time go on, so at the start they are pretty weak, but as time passes they turn into a powerhouse by how many caps they can spend on resources and weapons. I would've liked to see in the post game where you can have an organized structure, it is even implied that the Minutemen has, or had, an organized structure with mentions of Colonel Hollis, who lead the Minutemen in Quincy before the game started.

When we defend the castle from the institute, bos and gunners on my first play through I only lost one Minuteman and on the rest of my play throughs zero casualties. And for blowing up the institute I always have level 30 and higher Minutemen for the institute and I never lost a Minuteman. @BBBHuey
@BBBHuey 3 жыл бұрын
When playing as the Minutemen general, I did following choices based on Minutemen idelogy: Vault 88: I made all of Barstow's experiments beneficial to the Commonwealth. Making Vault 88 a haven for anyone wanting in. Nuka World: I exterminated the Raiders of Nuka World before allowing them to gain a foothold. Far Harbor: I sided with Far Harbor and convinced the Children of Atom to choose Division, ending the conflict. I confronted DiMA with Avery's murder and convinced him to take the punishment, saving Acadia. I also decided to let Kasumi stay at Acadia. To make her own future decisions and help the synths there. In the Main Game: I spared the synths of Bunker Hill and saved Danse from being killed by Maxson. I helped the Brotherhood build Liberty Prime, but aided the Institute in getting the Beryllium Agitator, making the Brotherhood my enemy. I continued working with both the Railroad and Institute, before I was forced to prevent the Institute from taking a settler when choosing to help my Minutemen. I defended the Castle and destroyed both the Institute and Brotherhood, while maintaining good relations with the Railroad. When playing as a Brotherhood of Steel knight, I did the following choices based on their idelogy: Vault 88: Aside from the Soda Dispenser and the Phoropter, I set the Power Cycle to Additional Power setting and the Slot Machine to Customer Profiling. Vault 88 serves as a training ground for future Brotherhood soldiers, and also as a holding area for ghouls since the Brotherhood hates mutants. Nuka World: I aided the Raiders in taking over Nuka World and capturing settlements in the Commonwealth (Among them the Slog). In doing so, one neglected faction of Raiders naturally turned on me and were exterminated. With one Raider faction gone, I then exterminated the rest with ease. Liberating Nuka World in the name of the Brotherhood. Preston and the Minutemen however are not pleased with that tactic, as it invited Nuka Raiders into the Commonwealth. Far Harbor: I sided with Far Harbor and got rid of the Children of Atom. I confronted both synth Avery and DiMA with the murder of the real Captain Avery, but chose to keep the secret in order to get Kasumi off the island. When taken back to her parents, I chose to reveal that she was a synth. Her parents disown her. She gets to live, but on her own in the Commonwealth. I then inform the Brotherhood about Acadia. DiMA and synths are destroyed. In the Main Game: I exterminated the synths of Bunker Hill. I chose to not recruit Doctor Li and aided the Brotherhood in getting the Beryllium Agitator. I then recruited Professor Scara to build Liberty Prime. When Danse is revealed to be a synth, I save him from being killed by Maxson. I exterminated the Railroad. With Liberty Prime, we breached the Institute and destroyed it.

Tbh I don’t get the hate towards non feral ghouls, even if they don’t have a technological background they are still really valuable to wasteland historians as they not only lived in the pre war era, but they have lived through the entire wasteland period. They hold an insane amount of knowledge. And if they have a tech background they are even more valuable, as they would be super helpful in rebuilding.

You forgot a category. Logistics. Who can replace losses and gear faster. The Brotherhood can't replace losses very quickly, depending on quality over everything else, and their high tech gear requires heavy maintenance to keep them running. They also have to be supplied by local farms as they do not produce any food, water, or scrap themselves. The Minutemen have more people then any other faction, and can easily replace their losses with minimal effort. They also receive food, water, and scrap from the settlements that they directly defend, making the maintenance of their simpler weapons and gear easier.

Very similar to the way I see it. The MM would be in the comenwealth working with the civilians protecting and working with them. The BoS more in the outskirts of the comenwealth defending it from invaders and very powerful threats. The Railroad more as intel, getting info from possible targets within the comenwealth and getting intel from whoever enters the comenwealth and having agents outside for intel as well on possible threats.

I gave my minutemen (settlers) medium combat armor with the minutemen paint, they all have upgraded laser muskets too. I've also made every settlement extremely fortified, impossible to get in, some settlements are outposts, artillery outposts specifically, so there's artillery fire available wherever you are expect ground zero. Some other settlements, like the castle or Spectacle Island are forts, enormous forts, not even possible to sneak near it since they're surrounded by guards and turrets. Other settlements, like Boston (I ended the BOS), are factories, Boston Airport being the biggest one, 2 story building filled with machines producing armor, weapons, clothing, etc., other settlements like outpost zimonija (Not sure what name it was), are settlements purely made for resource gathering, I've also got 2 sperate settlements for ghouls, so they can finally rest, and other settlements made purely for recruiting soldiers. I've also got supply lines that are all connected to one settlement, being outpost zimonija, where all my resources are stored. Basically if you put enough work in it the minutemen can be the strongest faction out there, it'll take time and cost tons of resources, but it's worth it, to make a mighty army.

In most cases is because they actually care. But the only thing the BoS actually does to the people who don't pay is rescind protection. It's the same with the Minuteman. If you don't have resources, you can't really fight. The only way for them to fight, is get food. It's unfair to help those that don't pay, because others do. It would drain yur resources. that was the problem with F3 boys. The Minuteman have no actual goal. You have guys like Presley who believe in helping all he can, but there were guys who disagreed with him, and the whole thing fell. The BoS goal is helping mankind. Removing teck is trying to remove the threat from Vault Teck like entities. Weapons for mass destruction are not a good thing. They at least showed they would not use them for destroying good people. That's no better than raiders, that they already have to deal with. You could say that it's just an Off-the-books mission, but Teagan says it is, and isn't military business. He says no, but he also says yes. Realistically, the Brotherhood doesn't want to rebuild mankind, they want to rebuild HUMAN-kind, and disregard all other intelligent and sentient life to do it. They don't even take any technology from the institute to study it and find a way to make it useful to the rest of the world, they just go straight to nuking it and everyone inside, kind of spitting in the face of what they say they're all about. Sure, you could say that the tech is too dangerous, but the fact that not a single person on the prydwen even brings this up kind of speaks for itself. The reality is they don't care about the commonwealth. They only care as much as the commonwealth is willing to kiss up to and pay tribute to them, like glorified raiders. The best hope for the commonwealth is the one that gives the most freedom to the most people and the ones that actually give a shit about the people.

The main purpose of the minutemen is to protect the settlements from any faction, including the BoS but, they dont want to be enemies. The way I see how it would go if the player character was more realistically restrained is the major factions would have their fights while the minutemen are sort of on the fence but, are on good terms with anti-institute factions and even skeptical about the institute. The minutemen would most likely butt heads with the BOS when they tried to "tax" some food and resources from the local settlements.

The minutemen have a lot of missed opportunities. There should be a quest to storm Quincy and take it back for the minuteman, making it a settlement. Also after taking the castle and Quincy back there should be a sit down council where you can pay a ton of caps to outfit the soldiers with combat armor and a specific service weapon, kinda like the institutes council. Hell, the main Gunner strongholds are in the south, and the Castle is in the south east. It's the best staging point for this kind of thing. I feel like Bethesda got halfway through the faction storyline, and just stopped. Yes, you can destroy the Institute with them, but if you do it with anyone else, the only major victory the MM have is retaking a half destroyed fort.

You could argue that once you build up the minute man you could establish the command structure but keep in mind Nora has no combat experience. she knows how to use a gun thanks to her husband but other than that, nothing. meaning she would have died on her way to the museum of freedom. she's outnumbered and in hostile territory. she's not prepared for it unlike her husband.

The Minutemen have three major advantages against the Brotherhood not mentioned in this video. 1: They have a better understanding of the terrain and are therefore more adept at ambushing the BOS. 2: There is a creation club addon where the Minutemen have captured a prototype power armor suit from the Gunners. While it does not actually give them power armor, it allows either you, Garvey, or any other active companion (not including Codsworth, Dogmeat, Strong, or Curie) to suit up against the BOS. However, Synth Curie can likely use power armor. 3: The Minutemen, while poorly armed, have proven time and again that they can defeat a technologically superior enemy, such as the Institute as mentioned by Desdemona. With that reputation in mind, they are nigh on unstoppable with the sole survivor on their side, and even more so the more settlements you have gained/liberated.

The criticism of BoS being unhelpful ignores how they hunt and exterminate ghouls, deathclaws and super mutants on a daily basis and defeat the enclave and institute who would kill any human not Enclave or Institute and the BoS demonstrates how they don't have a problem killing raiders as BoS patrols often do even if that isn't the goal. In fallout 3 we see the outcasts and regulars we see them kill raiders and Bandits all the time as raiders attack their base and patrols. Granted the raiders want tech and the BoS is just defending it. But it still helps clear the wasteland of scum. And even if the BoS don't attack raiders they certainly would retaliate. So the BoS by sheer killing everything their patrols find helps the wasteland. So they are helpful to the wasteland.

It depends on who gets the first hit in. I think you under-played the significance of minutemen artillery. The brotherhood would definitely stomp the minutemen in an all-out offensive ground war due to their superior arms, training and leadership, no doubt. But here's the thing, the brotherhood have a small presence in the commonwealth. They have two main depots they operate out of -- the airport and the police station. Two places where their leadership dwells along with their supplies and communication systems. If the minutemen bomb both of them simultaneously they very well stand to sunder the brotherhood's foothold in the commonwealth by crippling their leadership while cutting off supplies and communications. With the vast support the minutemen have in the commonwealth coupled with the brotherhood's small numbers in the region, the minutemen can most certainly knock them out easily without being dragged into a bloody war. But they need to strike first.

Good assessment, definitely agree. As a former infantryman and combet vet, I think he greatly underplays the artillery vs vertibird situation. Artillery are very powerful, even Russia's invasion of Ukraine has demonstrated that over and over. And if the Minutemen can make their artillery mobile via Brahmin transport, then it is extremely deadly. With familiarity with local regions, they can launch surprise guerilla attacks after taking down the Brotherhood airship than could bleed the Brotherhood dry. As for the vertibird, they are both very vulnerable to missiles from shoulder launchers as they have no chaff or other countermeasures, and have no armormant that can hit targets from longer ranges. The hundreds of helicopters Russia has lost in Ukraine to manpads, even with chaff, demonstrates how vulnerable they really are. And finally the Brotherhood has only a small number of vertibirds it can bring and maintain considering its facilities, whereas the lower tech artillery is easier to make, maintain, and learn to use. He also discounts things like experienced former Minutemen like Ronnie that could rejoin the Minutemen.

It is all dependent on how much time and effort the sole survivor invests into the minutemen. Keep in mind, fully fortified settlements lined with high walls and missile turrets would easily crush any invading force upon their settlements. The sole survivor can also equip these settlements with the best issues of laser rifles and or combat armor given enough materials and time to make them with the manufacturing equipment introduced in the contraptions dlc as well as place down power armors at these locations for settlers themselves to use in the event of an attack. The last major point is the fact that a mission is actually programmed into the game allowing you to blow the prydwin out of the sky with the minutemen artillery canons placed at 5 separate settlements. However, there is no mission or process that allows for the destruction of the minutemen. Bearing this in mind, the minutemen having the home field advantage + artillery might + vast settlements located across the entirety of the commonwealth make them the more formidable opponent in the long run simply because they cannot be completely and or permanently destroyed. They cannot be destroyed because they are all the people of the commonwealth. An entire civilization United under a common cause can destroy even the mightiest of invaders with the power of sheer numbers alone. Let alone with artillery to destroy their opponents headquarters, fortifications, or maybe even liberty prime itself if given the opportunity. The minutemen have the loyalty, love and resources of the people if done right. And that is enough to win in the end.

You missed communication, logistics, and base/hq security capabilities. Minutemen have the advantage of all 3 of those categories. Their communication reaches all ends of the commonwealth, they have supply lines, and their HQ is fortified and can take a beating. The brotherhood only has short range communications, no supply lines (which means they have to constantly scavenge), and the Prywin is a HYDROGEN blimp that if one good rocket hit will blow the whole thing up (and it also carries pretty much all the high command).

I know I'm bringing in logic to a game but I have to point out some very important weaknesses with the Brotherhood. 1. The Minutemen have supply lines and artillery around the Commonwealth with significant overlap. The Brotherhood only has the Prydwen and any supplies in it (they need to strongarm the locals to replenish stocks). 2. If an Artillery gets taken out, or a supply line disrupted, the Minutemen have alternatives. If the Brotherhood's repair crew gets taken out, their air superiority disappears right away. 3. The Minutemen are comprised of citizen soldiers of Commonwealth stock, and can therefore recruit as long as there are people willing to take up arms for a noble cause. By contrast, the Brotherhood has a limited list of combatants and are unable to replenish their numbers, because they simply do not recruit locally. 4. You need also consider their standing in the Commonwealth. The Minutemen are in good standing as they are largely selfless protectors without a catch. By contrast the Brotherhood are seen as overbearing bullies chasing boogeymen and will just as quickly save your life as they will strangle you for your lunch money (in a manner of speaking) - so the Commonwealth is liable to turn against them as no better than the other raider factions (even the Minutemen can decide to take them out). 5. While the Minutemen wants to build up the Commonwealth (and do a good job of it), the Brotherhood simply has no interest in that. They are likely to leave once their mission is done and head back to the Capital Wasteland. This no doubt would leave the Commonwealth worse off, since they will have been largely stripped of resources and tech that the Brotherhood covets so much. If we take the Sole Survivor out of the equation, the Brotherhood is doomed to fail either by attrition or sabotage, because they have no friends in the Commonwealth, and no one likes them. However, the Minutemen don't even exist without the Sole Survivor, I guess the Brotherhood wins by default regardless. So... Ad Victoriam?

Point by point rebuttal. 1. In the end both factions use a surprise commando attack inside the Institute to defeat them. While the BOS would have more firepower once inside they give up the element of surprise before entering the Institute proper by using Liberty Prime to gain access. The MM gain access before being detected increasing the element of surprise. Advantage: Draw 2. I think the MM have two unique assets Artillery and Settlers. The mobility of the Vertibird gives an advantage in taking new territory. Cooperation with the settlers give the MM an advantage in holding the territory it gains. The ability to gain and hold territory gives the MM a long term advantage in defeating the other two major factions in the Commonwealth Raiders and Super Mutants. Advantage: MM 3. Agreed 4. Agreed 5. The lack of a path of succession is more a function of game mechanics than anything else if the Sole Survivor is killed, game over/restart from save. There is nothing other than the game mechanics preventing the General of the MM from designating a successor, but none the less the option is not there. Advantage: BOS

Appreciate you taking the time to write that rebuttal. Interesting using the Settlers themselves as a unique asset, since I was obviously thinking of "asset" as a some kind of machinery or weaponry. But I like your view that it could of been beyond that and have to do with people. I'll be sure to keep that in mind in any future related videos. And I also agree that the lack of succession is a form of game mechanics. Thinking about it more, the MM are quite unfinished compared to the other 3 factions.

There's no arguing that the Brotherhood are better-resourced, but the part about values and principles are what makes the Minutemen the better choice imo. I think with strong, lasting reforms such as the expansion and reorganization of leadership, the adoption of a standardized training regimen to compliment the Minutemen's home field advantages and the concerted effort of acquiring new armor and weapons would even the Minutemen's playing field against the Brotherhood of Steel drastically. It should also be kept in mind that with each new settlement that comes under the Minutemen's banner, while they now do need to defend those settlements with those settlements come possible recruits, new supplies, and lines of logistics. this being a Minutemen vs the brotherhood video, this assumes the Minutemen have already built up and made a successful return. to me this means they have not only a strong knowledge of the commonwealth but have already built themselves back up into being a strong force, especially if the Minutemen have devoted resources into making artillery outposts. while the Brotherhood is new in the area and only has so many troops, and sets of power armor. Liberty Prime may or may not yet be functioning and they only have as many Vertibirds as they can dock onto the Prydwen. There seems to misunderstandings here when it come to ECBOS's principles. While Arthur did bring back the gathering of technology it isn't their main goal and unlike the WCBOS they will actively destroy said technology if deemed too dangerous as seen with the Institute.Instead most of their efforts are spent wiping out raiders, gunners, super mutants, ferals, etc., come running to protect any normal wastelander NPC they see (most notably the ghoul kid in the fridge) and securing roads. While it is true they don't socialize aside from trading, to say they do nothing for the normal wastelander is blatantly and utterly false. They are a mix of Lyons and WC ideals not one or the other. Furthermore the farm mission isn't coming from a offical capacity but the corrupt Quartermaster Tegaen who warns you that this is strictly off the books and Arthur can't know because you and him would get into deep trouble. What was failed to take into account, something is arguably the whole reason why we see the NCR in control of Helios 1 in New Vegas, is population and recruiting standards. This is something that should've been touched on in either organization or equipment. While the Brotherhood indeed holds the cake on those 2, you can't forget the lessons of history shown with situations like the Battle of Agincourt (where the British defeated the French heavy plate armor soldiers with archers that were fewer in number) or the Eastern Front of World War 2 (where the larger quantity of Russian tanks was able to defeat the far superior in quality [armor and gun, not engine reliability, don't kill me for not taking that into account] German tanks because there simply wasn't enough of the German tanks to compete). As is often used as a Joseph Stalin reference, "Quantity is a quality all its own." The biggest issues that we see with the Brotherhood (and this was only briefly touched on) is their lack of acceptance for people and creatures they deem as "not human" such as ghouls, robots (both of which have entire settlements of just them that you can have join the Minutemen), and super mutants. While the numbers are fewer and further between for those you can recruit on all of those, it is still a sizable number and with certain DLCs you can also make more of the robots, a feat that the Brotherhood will never achieve. With all that having been said, yes the Brotherhood is far more accepting of new members joining than they were in the West Coast chapter, they still (and yes this is basically just another way of saying it) are not even close to the level of the Minutemen for that. So as my final statement, while yes the Brotherhood does hold their own on quality, they are so far beyond outmatched by the quantity of the Minutemen that are (by the time the Castle is retaken) both self-sufficient and still rapidly growing. Look at their numbers again, it took the Brotherhood years to reach their current numbers while the Minutemen regrew from a single Preston Garvey to an actual army to be reconned with in what was (depending on how you play your role as General) either weeks or months, not years. TLDR: Quantity is a quality all its own, and the Minutemen are growing significantly faster than the Brotherhood could ever hope to with how they treat outsiders and "non-humans"

That what I always found strange is that people forget the minutemen are only as good as how much effort the player puts into them. I couple points here. 1. Pretty much all or majority at the very least of all the followers you can have in the game would most likely join the minute men which could be given power armor and armor possibly stronger then the BOS. 2. I know you can’t do this in the game as an option and idk why but the minute men could use those tanks sitting there after the bomb drop. 3. The minute men don’t hold a single grudge or bone of hate in their body so they don’t shy away from letting in extremely intelligent and possibly very viable people such as synths and even ghouls who could have been around pre war and very possibly could be veterans or just extremely skilled survivalists. Ghouls are such and easily untapped source simply because they look different sadly but at the end of the day they are still human and the minute men see it that way. Easily letting synths and ghouls adds so much potential for having immortal troops who could be around forever to help carry on the cause and become deadly troops as well. 4. It’s not an option in the game sadly but the atom cats would most likely 100% join the minute men because of their views adding heavy shock troops cause of power armor and simply just really good troops, they have experience against gunners who are very close to BOS troops in the field. 5. Very rare but definitely not obsolete but docile super mutants such as strong and virgil and other potential candidates would be easily let in, we all know smart super mutants are seen as weak in their society so an accepting group like the minute men would be such an easy getaway. Even strong loves it when you help settlers. Adding super mutants is an easy heavy troop to add to the minute men as well. And 5. Yall gotta stop hating on Preston man is a G FR FR. Bonus addition: Ex raiders/Gunners who’ve escaped or left that lifestyle are easily hardened survivors and skilled possible troops that the minute men can have.

I always thought the Brotherhood of Steel was the best available faction to take on the Institute and abominations. It would do all the heavy fighting while the Commonwealth populace helps itself up. In your Values and Principles section, while I agree Minutemen wins that, I'd like to point out to other viewers that a Sole Survivor who cares about the Brotherhood's reputation can pay for the crops, so those settlements can still benefit or at the very least, not be hindered. But yeah, Teagan doesn't really care how it's done. As for the Railroad's destruction, the Railroad was always going to oppose the Brotherhood's effort to eradicate all synths, but yes, it was a preemptive attack. Guess I just don't like the word choice "harmless" being applied to the Railroad. Everything else in that section stands alright with me. But he shouldn’t say by any means because while I’m sure most brotherhood soldiers would be willing to pay every organization has their bad eggs and an incident could happen to say the least.

Well done. Even with your own opinion. This was a very good explanation. I don't follow youtube vids, and this is my first comment to leave. I thought your video deserves recognition. Kudos to YOU Sir !!!

There's no contest, based on your six categories, the Brotherhood takes five.

As someone who plays with mods, it's weird to see the regular minutemen and not the NCR. I have had the NCR replacer mod for the minutemen installed for so long that the regular minutemen men look weird to me. My head cannon is that the minute men are a special division of the NCR military specializing in settlement founding and defence. This helps with in-game dialog not being changed and the NCR still being called the NCR

“Hometurf advantage” that’s it, it’s why the first minutemen existed Poor farmers taking up any weapons they got and they know the land and have a good reason to fight Sound familiar

I disagree with the Vertibird advantage for one reason. Dear god do they crash for any reason possible. I have seen them get shot down by pipe guns, fly into trees and explode, or just fly on an apparently purposeful course towards a building.
