depending on price you could 1x8GB DDR4 2666mhz Or higher depending on price 1x16GB DDR4 2666mhz or 3200mhz if its cheapers

most of these Acer models only allow 1 slot so you only have one option of buying 8GB RAM. but if your model DOES allow two slots, then buying an additional 4GB RAM to add to your existing 4GB will not only be cheaper but you'll also be taking advantage of the dual channel which will slightly increase your performance. my Acer Aspire 3 A315-54K also allows 1 slot so i'll be removing my current 8GB RAM with a 16GB RAM next week. :)

i think the limitation is more the lack of dedicated GPU. if you are on 4GB of ram maybe upgrade to 8gb

ram can be upgraded, i would recommend installing matching amount of ram, so 2x8gb or 2x16gb

@@rickstechrepairs As I know theese Acers came even 4 or 8 GB soldered to the MOBO. I think this one had 4GB soldered and 4 GB slotted and you just upgraded to 12 Gigs. This BIOS isn't able to handle more than 8GB added RAM.

i have a a-315-42 which is nowhere to be found but i unscrewed it and its easily possible to see and replace my ram, you can always unscrew and check i guess?

first thing i look at when computers are sluggish is what hard drive is in the machine.. ..Anything thats running a 3rd generation intel cpu and newer (so 7/8year old pc's) the biggest thing that makes them sluggish is the hard drive, replace that with an SSD and that Will give you a noticable speed improvement

Yes, 100% - Always disconnect the power before adding / removing RAM... and be careful not to touch the contacts as he did in this video, as RAM is vulnerable to static discharge. A computer technician should be wearing a static strap to prevent static electricity from damaging the RAM or any other components in the computer.
