Bought this laptop last year for work and light gaming. I didn't even notice the throttling issue until recently. Your solution fixed the problem for me. Although my CPU thermals are all over the place once I turn on throttlestop, jumping from anywhere between 70 to 90C. But it goes back to normal once I turn it off. It's really astonishing that no other reviewer has talked about the throttling issue when reviewing this laptop. You're one of the real ones. Subscribed.

I dare say you’re better off getting the Swift X you reviewed awhile back, especially since you can get more bang for your buck than this Aspire model. The 2021 Swift x model is literally under $800 in some markets nowadays.

I got the same stuttering problem with my lenovo thinkbook gen 2 (i5-1135g7, 16gb ram, mx450 2gb gddr6, 1tb nvme) From the moment the gpu hits 70°C, the cpu powerlimit goes to 13w. And it's stay there. The gpu and cpu temperature will drop arround 65-70°C for cpu and gpu but shit as lenovo notebook designer won't give the cpu any more power. 70°C is far away from the 100°C temperature limite. (I'm really upset that they programmed it like that) (the powerdelivery of the system is powerfull enough to let the cpu drawn a constand of 28 watts and a gpu power drawn of 25w. I know this because i layed my notebook on the excaust of my AC.) Throttle stop didn't seam to do anything in my case. I think I'm on the latest bios (thanks to the lenovo vantage bloatware). I have been in the bios but it's really limited and I also have been in the advanced bios, I could chance the fanspeed, the limite of total system powerdraw, powerstages and other advanced shit that i didn't understand. so I didn't dare to chance the more advanced stuff that would have propably have fix some shit. Sadly know I have forgotten how to get in the advanced bios. I think i had to research for 3 days to find a way in to the bios. (I know it was going in to the basic bios, restart from that bios, pressing a lot of keys. something is telling me eather it was pressing all the function keys, But something else is say that it was pressing qwerty/azerty) I know that i have rescently tried it and failed, the timing realy has to be right In most game is you limited the fps to 30 or 60 and lowed the grafics settings, it was fine. But I also try to do some emulation on it, The last of us via RPCS3. When the cpu got 28w the game ran at 45fps but when the cpu only got 13w it was 7-25fps.

UH would really appreciate if you reply, Got the same laptop with a different cpu which is i5-1240P, I did what you showed in the video but it cranks up the Clock speed too much hence game Lags due to sudden Jump in heat, So like 85-98 C Up's and down's Was wondering if there is anyway to just lock the clock speed around 2-2.5 Ghz?

Great review! Do you think there's a chance the GPU power could be increased with custom vbios from other laptops with same GPU but higher power limit?

In theory that works. But I wouldn't do it as you'll 1.Destroy your warranty 2. Run the GPU with a cooling system that isn't built for that wattage. It can work fine, but even if Temps are okay the Temps of other parts of the GPU which aren't measured could suffer and the degrading of your hardware could speed up by a lot.

How did you manage to enable CPU voltage monitoring on this laptop? I can only choose the one for a GPU. Does it require some third-party software to be installed like AIDA64?

Yes. Install HWinfo and then you can activate the readings via MSI Afterburner as well if you activate the plugins in the monitoring section of afterburner. But HWinfo had to run as well all the time.

The throttling issue is why I wouldn't go for an Aspire laptop, they REALLY need to fix the behavior of the power management there. It's kinda strange though, as Intel specifies a "minimum assured power" (base power) of 28 watts for the p-SKUs. Might as well get an i3 for cheaper than the i7 if it's gonna throttle anyways. Also, $1200 for this!?!? I've seen thin comet lake gaming laptops with much better cooling and performance for less money...

@@palos6866 For the same price? A gaming laptop with a 4050 and i5/R5. (edit) There is an LOQ model with a ryzen 7 7840HS, 4060, 16GB RAM, and 1TB SSD for $1100 at lenovo US. I would get this. For the portability? The Lenovo Slim Pro 7 14" is a good choice. It's on sale for $900 at Lenovo US, has good enough build quality and is quite portable. It's not very upgradeable but already comes with some decent specs (R7 7735HS, 16GB DDR5 6400, 512GB SSD), a great screen, and type C charging over USB PD. While the ports are a bit lacking in my opinion it has a full USB 4.0 with PD AND a full USB 3.2 type C.

I've bought recently a HP Envy 17 laptop with an IntelCore i7-1260P CPU and integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics running Windows 11. It does not heat and I never hear the cooling fans. I am not a gamer, so I never play games on a laptop. That said, the performance is not overwelming, and after opening many tabs I have difficulties closing them, causing the system to crash. My 4 years old Asus laptop running Windows 10 with an Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU and a dedicated NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 950M GPU has a way better performance, does not crash, nor does it heat and make any noise at all as well. After my experience now, I would not recommend a laptop without a dedicated GPU.

well not really but in some game they do came close, but it is happen only in Radeon 680m in H series prosesor not in U processor, and also have the fastest RAM available which is LPDDR5X 6400, and that combination the cost will skyrocketed, better get 2050 on i5 P or 3050 instead it will surely be cheaper
