I bought this thing for less than 200 euros new few weeks ago. I was looking for cheap 165 screen and run into this guy.. Build quality, stand, colors out of box, everything is much better than any best buy 165hz screen i tried. Very happy with it.. 1440p is becoming to demanding for my budget and nice, fast, accurate display like this one is perfect for me..

It would be nice to see comparison of Asus VG259QM and Acer Predator XB253Q GX as these both are most wanted in 240Hz IPS regard. Lots of people has difficulties with choosing between them and there is no straight and detailed showdown of these two. Also, Predator supposely has advantage over the rest 240hzIPS with it's godlike input lag- the best in this category.

After rocking this thing out for about a year I definitely have to say that it's a decent monitor if you really don't know what you're looking for, first time buyer, or okay with just average products. It'll get the job done but you can clearly see a difference in quality control if you look around at the competition. This is an amazingly accurate review for this screen and basically every word said is how it is in person.

Thanks for the great review. I had to buy this monitor because of it's price here in germany. I think there is no better option for 205€ including tax and shipping. In fact it was the cheapest 240Hz monitor here and to be honest, all what matters is the quick response time and the clear picture at 240Hz. For comparision the price of the ASUS VG259QM is 343€ and 484€ for the Zowie XL2546K.

This is great monitor for gaming.I have tryed MSI MAG 240 HZ, than ZOWIE 240HZ(that monitor is so bad in color reproduction) than 27 inch 2K LG and I can tell that Acer Predator beats them all in gaming.

I don't feel is totally a good comparison. Depending on the market, the Zowie is like $100+ more and is a different panel (TN), which should be by default better than IPS in terms of motion. Thank you for the review though of this! It was pretty neglected by the big reviewers.

Question regarding 1:42 - The scenario is: Monitor @ 240Hz, but your PC is only able to do e.g. 60fps. Why does the screenshot @ 1:55 show 120Hz? I thought the monitor is set to 240Hz...

Good review. I'm fine with my VG259QM so far (outside of an unfortunate dead green subpixel but that's how AU Optronics' quality control is, I've had a Dell S2419HM before from the same panel manufacturer that had 2 dead pixels), but for this Acer monitor and Dell AW2521HF to offer software to control monitor settings and USB ports whereas Asus doesn't makes me miss losing features like that (as someone that fiddles brightness and contrast settings many times). Plus the pricing you mentioned of $330 for the VG259QM makes me realize it was overpriced here in the Philippines ($430) 😅 Anyhow Acer and Dell aren't selling their 240Hz counterparts here and the MAG251RX one is out of stock for months so it's something I can bear with.

Hey if you had to choose a 240hz monitor without strobing/dyac, would you still pick zowie or go with VG259QM instead? Can you even tell the difference in person between the two when it comes to motion clarity?

VG259QM. They’re basically the same without ELMB and DyAc but the ASUS has better colors.

@@adriangreen3335 Inputlag between all these 240Hz monitors I've tested have felt identical. They may have an input lag deviation of +/- 1, but it's not noticable.

@Bijan Jamshidi off topic but I think you should include input lag in these tests, both at native res and 60 fps. I think its inportant because not all of these monitors are great. For example in the case of Asus vg259qm (and 279qm), they have really low input lag for 240hz but insanely high input lag for 60 hz, which would make them a deal breaker for playing on console imo. For that reason alone I went with the Alien Aw25hf over the Asus.

I agree and wish I could, though I usually get that information from either RTINGS or TFTCentral and with a lot of monitors I review, they didn't, so I can't grab it. I saw a what looks like tutorial from TFT Central but have yet to look at it so we'll see if I can gather my own data in the future.

I like when people try to hate on Acer by comparing it to something that costs twice as much. This $229 monitor to a $499. The other day someone was comparing a $2000 Acer laptop to a $3000 gaming laptop with similar specs. The funniest part is they leave out the most important part which is the prices of each.

Ampere doesn't have DP 2.0. It has HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4a

In saying that, there is no need for DP 2.0 at this point in time. Next generation yes but certainly not now. HDMI 2.0 = DP 1.4a = 4K 120p. DP 2.0 is designed to do 8K 120p (with DSC) or 16K 60p (with DSC), which even the RTX 3090 cant reach anyway, so there is no need for it on the card.

have a stuck pixel or somethong of the sort on my MSI Mag271CQR, it comes and goes with no discernable reason other than potentially temperature. Super noticable when it happens but not that bad overall

Hello Bijan, I love your reviews, they do include tons of details. Also you are honest and you do mention those things that are not as good as manufacturers are saying. Is there already MSI MAG252RX available in your country? I would love to see this one and later on comparison vs Asus 280Hz and 240Hz Alienware. RTings reviews are saying that Asus has lowest response time, but Hardware unboxed reviews are saying that MSI monitor is way better in this matter. I would love to find out what’s the truth. Well hardware unboxed actually reviewed 27” version of Asus, but I don’t believe it would be such huge difference.
