Acerbis gas tank FAIL?!

Not sure if you ever got this figured out/fixed. I've installed numerous Acerbis tanks, on various bikes, including the DRZ. I always do it the same way, never had a leaker. Rather than inserting a screw, wood or s/m, sneak a bolt/washer up thru the larger main petcock hole, then bring it down thru the drilled screw hole, creating a stud to screw a nut onto. You may have to use some needle nose to run the bolt/washer down threw the tank, or skinny fingers. Kind if hard to explain. Just think about it for awhile. I've done it many times, always worked.

Why would Acerbis use wood screws for fitting the petcock. Thank you for this video. I will just buy one of them red ATV petrol cans and strap it to my back rack.

Yeah this is ridiculous, I put a 25litre acerbis on my DR650 a few months back, thought the wood screws were a bit odd at the time but trusted the process as so many people seem to rate the product. Was putting a new air filter in the other day and noticed a slight fuel drip around the petcock. My only thought was to paint a bit of fuel proof gasket around it and let it cure overnight, unfortunately my bike is parked in a family member's garage so it will be a few more days til i get the chance to see if it worked, but really not impressed given how expensive it was

I would think, with the seemingly hundreds of videos we see of the Aussies with bush pigs and Acerbis tanks, that we would see more of this. I am incredulous that those screws are wood screws and that they don't have some sort of way to be tightened and that no gasket is involved. If you haven't found a solution, I would think you could push through from the back an insert with the back that is wider than the hole and that uses a machine screw into the insert that doesn't go all the way through (I don't know what those are called, but something like Dzus fasteners. Did you resolve this issue?

Well the guy from acerbis U.S. sent me out a whole new petcock and all. Very nice. BUT that did not fix my problem. I wanted to use a vacuum petcock so my motor won't get flooded. The fix in the video worked. It's not as stable as if it came from factory with brass inserts. But it did good. I'm hoping they see the video and look into it. And I hope it helps people.
