There has been a rumor the past few years that Tupac ghostwrote the whole song for Coolio. It would make sense too with Coolio saying he was 23 going on 24 in the song and at the time Coolio was 32...but Pac was 23..and he was around Coolio around alot at that time. Alot of the references and theme Tupac makes in the song and the way he was rapping also sounds like Tupac from that era, especially Me Against The World Coolio has no other song like this so it would not shock me if it was Tupac who wrote this

This song is sampled from THE ICON.... THE LIVING LEGEND Stevie Wonder...... the song is called Pastimes Paradise from the album "Songs in the Key of Life". Stevie won a Grammy for Album of the Year in 1976. Stevie Wonder's message was just as deep as to what Coolio was rapping....the struggle.

Fun Fact: Stevie Wonders song Pastime Paradise is the Original. Please listen to it. Stevie Wonder allowed Coolio to sample his song but under one condition he could not cuss or say the word N**ga in it notice Coolio never done so in the entire song. Also Stevie has 95% royalties of this song.

So I’m a white girl, I’m 38 now, grew up in a small hick town, and in the 5th grade, I lip synced this song in a talent show 😂 My teacher didn’t really pay it any attention leading up to the show, she just wanted me to write the lyrics out for her, so I did my best. I’m not even sure I rehearsed it being it was so simple while other folks had bigger things going on. Well, the night of the show, I remember rapping my lil heart out and they cut that shit off quick - I didn’t get to finish 😆

I heard this in another reaction and I think it makes a lot of sense from the rap and hip rop I've listened to. Pre-2000, it was about laying the struggles of the "life" bare and showing that it wasn't a good way to live. Post-2000, it was about glorifying the life and making it seems glamorous.

I literally just found you watching JK with Kid Laroi. So I see you watching our BTS BOYS on hiatus doing their solo work. Its all good:) But if you love diving into BTS, you should know that Bang PD sent them to L.A. early in their start to film a show called American Hustle Life. And it's intense and who was there? Coolio, R.I.P. And Warren G. I'm 40 and from Oakland, CA. Everybody my age back then knew about the film Dangerous Minds and Gangstas Paradise. You should check the show out. Because our BTS boys will probably show you from early on how seriously determined they were and its so fun to see them interact with Coolio and Warren G!💜

So powerful. I don’t know what year this came out ( I’d take a guess at 1995 or so.) but I moved across the river from Detroit. In 1967 after the riots all the white people moved out of the inner city to the suburbs. All the business dried up and quickly all the tax money disappeared. Nothing got built, old buildings were abandoned. 60+% of the population moved away. This is the environment kids grew up in. What followed I’ll leave it up to you to figure out. RIP Coolio. Telling the truth sometimes hurts our sensitivities. Beware, remember if you look in a mirror you may not like what you see.
