This is a pretty good explanation! Facebook has some support groups that can help as well. What it does not mention is how often it's misdiagnosed as acid reflux because of the fermenting food in the esophagus. I have A2 pre op. Going in for LHM and DOR. I've lost 60 pounds in 4 months, lost hair due to malnutrition, go on for fluids(IVs) weekly or biweekly because the dehydration affects my kidneys, and have aches from the rapid water loss/starvation. I'm glad I don't have the spasms that many people have with this. The 2014 Belgium study says it's autoimmune.

I can confirm it is autoimmune in my case. Inappropriate reaction to respiratory virus. I don't have A, but aperistaltic esophagus with working LES.

Yes. I haven't been diagnosed with anything other then dysphagia, and my doctor's kept trying to say it was GERD. They are supposed to do another test on me, to see if they can find out what's going on. But I have been in and out of the hospital because of this. And I have lost about 80 pounds. It's the worse thing ever. I desperately miss eating food. I'm grateful I can get liquids down for the most part. By the grace of God. I praying for a miracle. I pray I can get through this test in Jesus name. And I pray that things are better for you.

I have this, got surgery for it (Heller myotomy) a couple years ago. Before I was diagnosed and knew what this was, I gradually lost the ability to consume anything thicker than broth and water, and lost nearly 40 pounds as a result. Two years later, and I've added weight, but still have to be mindful about what I eat--not too many heavy meats, breads, fish, or leafy greens--lest I clog my esophagus again. Pre-surgery, the worst part was the constant regurgitation and frequent chest pain attacks, which were absolutely scream-inducing until I figured out how to allay them by drinking warm liquids, causing me to burb and release the gas build-up around my sternum. The attacks still come occasionally, but aren't nearly as frequent or extreme.

@F Nahim Yup. Trust your gut, no pun intended. I had multiple doctors try to tell me the same, or that it was just some type of gas issue. It wasn't until I had a colonoscopy and a barium swallow performed that I was officially diagnosed.

My situation was caused by acid reflux. An my slurred speech was caused by tapeworms an pinworms overwhelming my stomach and throat and tongue. Damaging my nerves that control my tongue an swallowing. I have a dislocated right shoulder an right hip. The doctors I've been to are dumber then rocks My primary called me delusional and didn't even examine me for parasite worms. Which many doctors even dermatologist would say oh you eczema an prescribe me Prednisone steroids. Over many years Which ruined my immune system. My nurse practitioner denied my request for deworming prescription and wouldn't test me for parasites. She sent me too a neurologist who tested my arm and leg nerves and muscles said I had progressive ALS without asking me any questions. Over the years I've had to research my self and I know my body. I can't believe how money grubbing doctors are who milk our health insurance an be controlled by the crooked government that are trying to kill us off.

In Oesophageal cancer, dysphagia occurs to solid and then over time to liquids, due to the slow growing nature of the cancer, though this again depends on the stage of presentation

I choke on my vomit or it'd comes out of my nose during my sleep. I've just had my 2nd Laparoscopic cadio myotomy surgery and sadly I can still feel it happing. They said its my body creating too much scarring tissue thats sticking the incisions back together as well as my organs. I think its because it took my doctor 4 years to diagnose me and I think it became sever at that point. My food is going down to my lungs at times and I always get sick every month, I got really sick at one point and got pneumonia. I'm probably gonna have to live with it, but for anyone who has this go to you GP and sort it out before it gets worse.

Have you heard of the newer surgery called POEM? I have read that you can have that even having the laparoscopic myotomy.

I have the same problem more than 45 years. Food along with acid going to the lungs is very dangerous. Because it can damage your lungs very quickly. I have also the same issues. I am waiting for a fundoplication ( 270 degree)surgery. This can stops the acid and foods coming back to the mouth. Remember, don't eat or drink any thing late. I have acid reflex, hytous hernia, sleep apnea, my esophagus completely damaged and scarring. Scleroderma in esophagus or connective tissue disorder. Talk with your doctor about the Nissan fundoplication surgery to stop the food coming back.

I had achalasia before. If you need a treatment, there is a surgery called “poem”. The surgery isn't perfect, but it helped me a lot. So, you should consider taking it.

I have had it since I was four and I am now 15. I got a surgery called a nissen when I was 10, but it didn't work so well so now they might have to undo it.

That maybe GERD. You should just tell your doctor. Dysphagia isn't normal. If it's GERD a medication should be able to help with the issue.

Connor Lingle you most likely have this I recently got diagnosed with this and had the poem procedure I can honestly say so far after the first day I'm already able to drink things without throwing up. I just haven't eaten food yet cause I just had surgery and I need a couple of days to let it heal
