Acharaa ji answered the question in one single sweep but the questioner was still reluctant that his emotions might be driven by something special that it is spiritual. Well the Maya ( Mother nature) wants nothing from animal but just to preserve the life only and maintain its continuity. when we hit the the right age (teenage) then Maya wants us to find a mating partner and reproduce children(a genetic copy of ourselves) so the organism may survive through its copy on and continue its existence in the world. Every organism has just one goal (from Maya) that is anyhow just survive. There are some special ones that set on the path of Knowledge and eventually enlightenment. but most of us are very much into the world or in the clutch of Maya, So If we are bound to choose a partner then its wise to choose the right one with high morale, who have higher consciousness.

No offence but I think it's not just for sex at the end that we need opposite gender for. 1️⃣We see gender based psychological differences in thoughts , opinions etc. That can be definately filled with siblings of opposite gender or parents for that matter(girls with father's and boys with mother's or all sit together and discuss together especially when all are grown up adults) but then generation gap comes in, sometimes family members can't understand the problems to the extent which our age group does or sometimes people tend to take others problems too lightly. 2️⃣Another possibility can be that to test whether the opposite gender person can be our best friend to be trusted and then to marry in the future or not so that there is no need for arranged marriage later on(for those who surely have to marry) so that chances for a successful and happy marriage increases.
